The above "facts" were later corroborated several times in that thread.
I may just have to sell it...or maybe just give it away because the Basswood Tribute is apparently a POS.

All this time, I (and everyone else who has ever played it) thought it was killer, only to be informed by the TalkBass Wood Police that it actually sucks..and has no snap.

My first G&L was a US made L2500 with a Basswood body with an ash top. Had all the snap, life, punch, etcetera as all the other G&Ls I've tried, and is the bass that made me fall in love with L-series basses. Doesn't hurt that it also weighed noticeably less than the same bass in ash or alder. If these people noticed a marked difference, perhaps it was because their non-basswood Tributes were made before the manufacturing was moved to a different country (some are Indonesia and some were elsewhere), or any number of other possible differences between the two...

OK so;
outta the case, and let her sit for a few hours, set the trussrod for winter "heaters done run the moisture out of the air," re-tweaked action and plugged in.
Oh yeah: I need to Caig the treble pot; done, turns a lot nicer now, and quiet.
Man, it's super fat. Too fat. Dropped the neck pup all the way, set the bridge to match. This is good, and not overpowering the Walkabout's preamp.
I may raise them a bit...maybe not.

It sounds and behaves like I expected/hoped it would. Nice.
I won't miss the preamp a bit-not that it had one;)
There's quite a few "inbetween tones" with one pup in this mode, one in that mode, and pup selector in the middle, but, they make sense and are similar to other sounds...nothing crazy going on there.

I like it lots better than the v/v/t setup it had, for sure!
Rumor has it, this is what a passive L2Ke was, if indeed there was one.

The bass that I am getting is an ASAT. I've been reading about their neck dive issues, and how some people have fixed it by using a balancer or the 2nd strap button on the bottom of the bass which I assume this one has, as it's a 2010 model.

Just in case it does not, can anyone give me some info on the balancer options? I've tried searching around in TB and google but haven't been able to turn up much info. I want something that looks professional or factory if I need to get anything at all.

ASATman used to make a deal that replaced a three bolt neck mounting plate, with a deal that had it's own strap button. That's not around anymore, that I know of.

I'm not sure.
It might be that everything is 6 bolt now, but, I'm not sure when that changed.

As I said, those are no longer being made.

Righteo. Next question...what do all of the switches & knobs do? I know it's been answered before so I'm sorry for that...

This is the one...I'll get some good pics once I have it with my DSLR, but this is what I have for now...

Gotcha! I don't have it installed yet but I used to own an L2500 Tribute with an Audere pre. With the EQ set flat it sounds a lot like regular passive but clearer somehow. You can boost or cut each of the four EQ bands and find useable tones. I never liked the sound of the active w/ treble boost switch setting but diming the Audere treble control makes the tone really clear and clean without any harshness or ice-pickiness.

Currently I have a pickup selector switch, and a parallel/inner single/series switch for each pickup. All of that will stay and I'll have an active volume control (so, no tone change when you turn the volume down), true stereo blend, high mid/low mid stack, and treble/bass stack. Theoretically I should be able to put the pickups in single coil mode, boost the bass, and approximate the single coil with bass boost option.

I'm going to leave the switches as is so that I'll still have a pickup selector switch. When the p/u switch is in the middle position the blend control will still work as normal, and when the blend control is centered I can use the p/u switch as normal. The pickups connect to the Audere pre separately and so the blend control works in stereo, giving a true range of tones throughout the pot sweep.

Don't let TB talk you into assuming you'll have a neck dive problem with your ASAT. There are many variables such as your strap, your build, and your personal sensitivity to neck dive. It's never an issue for me, even with the dreaded ASAT 5. The only thing I notice is a somewhat longer reach up the first position.

Oh, I won't. I just figured I'd be proactive about it just in case so I can have a fix in mind.

I have played my L2000 in to a handful of outboard preamps and this hasn't really been the case for me- scwbb to me is all about additional low midrange punch moreso than actual "bass", so a boost at 40Hz-80Hz (I can't remember what freq Audere uses for their Bass control) might just add mud. I actually had an Audere pre in my Darkstar'd Jazz bass for awhile and had the two pickups wired up in a similar scheme to the seperate coils in single coil with bass boost (so full signal from the bridge pickup and lows only from the neck pickup)- it was massive sounding to an almost unwieldy degree in that setting!
That said- I have a feeling the versatility of the Audere will make the single coil with bass boost unnecessary anyway, especially with the Z-modes. I recall one of those modes had a similar effect as scwbb in a more "active" fashion!

I'm strongly considering "Downgrading" from a Bongo 5 HHp to a L-2500 tribute

I don't play 5 enough to warrant that type of $$$ into a 5er. The L2000 I tried was such a nice bass I'm hoping the L2500 is as good. Sure I'll miss the Bongo especially the 4 band EQ which is FANTASTIC for 5 strings... it really helps to make sure that B string sits perfectly in the mix volume wise & tone wise. I've found that the low B tone & volume is poorly controlled on other basses as in it is what it is.

Any thoughts on the EQ being able to adjust the low B on the 2500 in those 2 areas?

but 1 Bongo HHp 5 or a L2500 & a MIA Jazz for the same $?
