G&L Club Part 4

there wasn't an internet when I went to h/s.

We used to have to get up out of the lake at three o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a
handful of hot grubble, work twenty hours a day at mill, for two pence a month, come home, and dad would beat us around
the head and neck with a broken bottle, if we were lucky.

NBD! Just picked up a used USA JB. It's got a natural clear swamp ash finish and a gun oil maple neck. This is the easily the nicest and easiest playing bass I've laid hands on. I was inspired by my Squier VM Jazz, which I like, but even after a "pro" setup was lacking in comfort and payability. Every time I visited my local music shop, I couldn't get over how nice their G&L L2000 Tribute feels. It's been there over a year, and now has some buckle rash. IMO they're asking too much for it, or it may have found its way home with me. I wanted a jazz bass I did some research and took the plunge on EBay. I can't wait for band night. This JB is so sweet and so easy to pay. It sounds clean, no fret buzz. It's light too. I'll post pics later.

You had a lake? We had mud. And the grubble wasn't hot. And dad didn't have a bottle.:hiding:

Advice Please
I'm looking at having both of my 2500s rewired to have each pickup seperate for coil tapping. Also it should be noted that I rarely play in active mode.
is it better to remove the active electronics and use that space for one of the pickup switches, or drill another hole.
I am not concerned about resale value as I plan to keep these bases forever. I'm just wondering what my fellow G&L players would do and why?
Thanks
Peace& Love
Mike

When the preamp on my L2KE died, I did just what you're thinking of.
Removed the preamp, rewired switches for pup selector, and coil taps for each pickup

Just picked this up almost two weeks ago and I'm just wild about it

can I get a number??
now lets see if I post pics right

Totally pull the preamp - useless IMHO. I did this and wired mine up with a push/pull volume and 500k treble pot. I now have parallel/inner single/series for each pickup. With the volume knob down the series setting is "OMG" or "single coil with bass boost" mode - pull it up and it's stock series.

I can get you hooked up with wiring info if this is what you might want to do.

I took my re-necked L 2000 E (now with a SB-2 neck) to band rehearsal last week and I could not really find any benefit in active mode. I played humbucking, bth pickups, passive all evening and my bandmates really liked the growl (as did I).

Related (but new) question: I bet this has been asked before but I'm new around this thread. I don't currently own an L2K version (now have 3 other GNL's) but I always wondered if I could swap the pickup selector switch for a pickup blend knob, either active or passive mode, without drilling? Thanks!

On my earlier L2kE models, with top load control plate: no, there's not enough room to add a potentiometer.
On later model rear mount models, I don't know. I don't have one.

There's room if you use a mini-pot version. You might need to drill the hole a little bigger, though.
