Recently picked up the 1987 G&L L1000. i was wondering can i get a number?

Finally got around to fixing the pickup sPrING noise. Was wondering what to use as muffling and noticed a pair of earplugs on the windowsill.

Worked like a charm. Took all of five minutes.

I like this! I jammed a big piece of polyethylene foam BETWEEN the springs and it worked OK, but left you with that big klunky piece of foam under there!

I knew earplugs would be perfect as they expand after being compressed. So I tore one in half and each half filled one spring. Two earplugs = two pickups worth of springs fixed. Quite cost effective, I might add.

Im new to g&ls but my 87 doesn't have a springy noise to the sound at all. Does that year have springs?

It was only an issue on Tribute basses for a few years and has since been remedied. Both of my US L2Ks are pingless.

I had to put my 1984 L-1000 in Classifieds (Europe & International). The neck profile is just too shallow, I prefer chunkier necks. Someone is going to get a sweet bass.

Thanks for the clarifcation. Love my g&l although in my area there's an sb-2 and a 81 l-1000. Also a g an l jazz bass

You sold 3.5??? Was the .5 the G part or the L part?

It was a fretless Lynx with an extra fretted L-1000 neck. Not to bring up old memories, but I'm pretty sure the guy I sold the neck to went on to sell it to someone else and it contributed to his eventual banishment from TB.

On the bright side, I received an '84 SB-2 (J/J) from him which is 1 of the 2 I still have.

Can my long-suffering '81(?) L-1000 get a number?

It's not beautiful - the lacquer on the body has been cracked and chipped since before I got it and it was ignorantly defretted back in the mid 90's (not one of my brighter moments...) - but I still love the way it plays and sounds. I would someday like to have another one with frets though!

I've been looking at G&L L-2500, Tributes (where does the M-2500 fit in?), they look like they are great 5-strings, get great reviews. I have been looking, but have yet to find what the string spacing is at the bridge, can anyone tell me?

It might have been 17. Still, tighter than a 4-string.
