Just got this 1984 El Toro Bass yesterday. Makes a great addition to my G&L bass collection.

Great family mr msact! How would you compare El Toro to G&L L2000 1981? Whats your thoughts? I got two kay from the same year.

I haven't really had it long enough to give you a good description of the sound. It isn't that much different but it has it's own sound. Also like the L2K it has so many variations that it takes time to work through them. What I can tell you is that it's a lot sleeker than an L2K. Mine is quite a bit lighter and the neck is narrower. It would probably be easier on the back if you were playing gig.

Next on my list would be to add an Interceptor or an early SB2.

I was having a difficult time trying to put into words the sound difference until I came across a description in some old discussion threads. If you can think of a jazz bass on steriods, that's probably the best way to describe the basic sound. Of course it's got very similar controls as an L2K so you can dial in a lot of variations, but that's as good a basic description as any. My L1K and L2K have more of the classic G&L sound. My SB-2 is an absolute beast! There is definitely a place for all of them in my stable.

What are your thoughts on my M2K? :D

Hello my friend! Your M2K is a great instrument. I have a couple of Fender MIM's and it runs rings around them. I love the neck on it. Also, I like the simplicity of the controls compared to some of the other basses I have. Being able to mix the two pickups rather than just a three way selector is a feature that I wish my L2K has. In terms of basses, it was the best $400 I ever spent.

Hey there,

Today I received an '82/'83 L1000, and it's great! Not in mint condition; well-used, like it's supposed to.

It sounds and plays wonderfully, but I have one concern; it seems the polepieces are stuck and rusty, and I think some of them are stripped. What should I do to get them moving again?

For now it sounds pretty even, so there's no hurry. But I like to tinker a bit, so it would be nice to be able to move them.

I will post a pic when I can take one in daylight. :hiding:

Thanks!
