I just purchased this '81 today from TBer wannajazz. I've never owned one and have'nt played on one since mid eighties. I am excited and anxious to say the least.

When did they begin building the upper horn more "up and away" from the body? My '82 doesn't have such an emphasized, separate upper. Thanks.

My L1000 bass arrived today. It's in even better condition than I could have imagined. Thanks to the guys at Music Go Round in Lakeland FL for cleaning this up so well and shipping it to me with such care. The build quality and sound of this bass is amazing. Its a 1981 model as can be noted by the slotted pole pieces.

Picked up a new 2013 LB-100 today..

I pulled this off the wall while amp shopping to try out some amps, and turned out to be more impressed with this bass! I was forced to sell my 2012 Fender P to purchase this. The quarter sawn, plek'd neck has a nice low action, along with the high mass bridge the bass has much more punch and sustain than my Fender. The G&L just feels more solid in my hands. The tone was almost Jazz bass-like because of how solid and tight the tone was. I'm really impressed with this bass so far. Way to go G&L!

I pulled this off the wall while amp shopping to try out some amps, and turned out to be more impressed with this bass! I was forced to sell my 2012 Fender P to purchase this. The quarter sawn, plek'd neck has a nice low action, along with the high mass bridge the bass has much more punch and sustain than my Fender. The G&L just feels more solid in my hands. The tone was almost Jazz bass-like because of how solid and tight the tone was. I'm really impressed with this bass so far. Way to go G&L!

I think you may have talked me out of buying another Fender. Next might be an LB-100 in white/rosewood with a mint PG, a la Brian Wilson.

i believe they come standard with the #12 neck (1-5/8" nut width, 12" radius)

I just drooled over the G&L website. Oh man. They have a white/mint/rosewood LB-100 in the gallery that is stunning. The Sunburst could jeopardize my love affair with the Fender '62 AVRI. Nice CAR too, though the Duck has that well covered. The Vintage 1.5" neck with 7.25" radius looks to be the closest to my personal ideal among those offered.

Nice that G&L makes custom builds affordable. So many basses, so little time!

So bad news on this ASAT. I'd been playing it for the past month or so, and noticed the action was a bit high, and fret buzz at the 17th ish frets, as well as the 8th fret on the low E . I took it to a couple shops for a setup, and was informed that the neck has a ski-jump, in addition to being twisted. The truss rod is also maxed out, causing a slight hump around the 7th fret.

The work to try and fix the ski-jump would cost around 3-400, and that wouldn't solve the neck twist. The other option would be to get a replacement neck. Anyone have any luck getting one from G&L, and what was the price on it? Any suggestions as to what I can do? I'm definitely not happy with the neck on it as is.

I'm telling you man, if you played one of these LB-100's next to an American P bass I'd bet money that you would take the G&L. Plus you'd be getting a Plek'd, quartersawn neck and custom color choices. How much would that be from Fender?

The G&L neck radius is actually 7.5

I have one (#5) and it's the most comfortable neck.

I thought I might post this little report here, in view of the G & L friendly nature of this store...

As I happened to be in the San Diego area, I took my rental car outlet shopping to Carlsbad.

On the way there, I set the navigator to a certain El Camino Real address. It has been about 10 years since I last visited, so it's a good thing they still had the chicken on the roof.

Besides basses, I took a look at mandolins, and was tempted to bring a used Breedlove home. It was so well played the fretboard was gouged and it needed a fret job, otherwise it was fine. The wall of basses these days isn't so impressive, you can see all of them in their new website (it was revamped on Wednesday).

The El Toro was interesting, but priced a bit too high for me to justify even trying, and I need another L-2000 or a Jazz like a new opening on my torso somewhere.

The salesmen were a bit apologetic about the state of affairs as they have had to cut back on the retail space, and obviously are reluctant to increase the offering on the floor. The guys are friendly and talk business, I would buy there any day over chain stores.

If you contact G&L, they should be able to make you a new neck (not sure if they'll still do 3 bolt necks) if you explain the problem. There's a 10 yr warranty on G&L basses but it looks like you've passed that. I believe they charge about $600 for a new neck but if you really like the bass, it's still cheaper than getting a new bass.
