Woohoo! Just opened up my new L2500, and she's a keeper (I'll get some photos up later).
This is a new bass I got from Rocket Music, made in 2011. G&L really has upped their game compared to my old 2005 L2500. Here are my initial impressions.
Weight - Compared to my nearly 13lb old bass, this thing weighs almost nothing at 10lbs.

Perhaps this has something to do with the body being alder instead of ash.
Fit and Finish - This thing is flawless. The finish seems significantly thinner than the very thick poly on the old one. The bone nut is a nice touch. The old guy had some tooling marks near the nut and fret ends - none of that here. Very nicely done tobacco burst.
Sound - Sounds just like a L series bass. That is to say, it sounds awesome!
On a random note, it looks like it has a quarter sawn neck, even though it wasn't listed as an option on the certificate from G&L. Not a bad deal.
Anyone know when G&L moved from basswood to alder as the standard wood? I've always preferred alder to ash, so its nice to see it available.
Greg had put up some sound clips of this thing back when he got it in stock. Like I said, sounds just like a L series bass:
