The seller had said that he took it on as a project (previous owner had sold it because of the ski jump issue) and performed a refret/ leveling. I asked if the neck was straight before agreeing since i had known about the history and he had said it was and the refret had solved the issue. I've reached out to him privately hoping to be able to work it out somehow.

If you can have a luthier settling it for you, a Telecaster bass neck would be a very smart option. There is one (Fender Modern Player - China, brand new) currently on ebay item # 190827396752. Not cheap compared to the price of this bass.
But I advise you search through the TalkBass forums beforehand to be fully aware of potential issues with a Fender neck replacement (pocket size and shape, 34" scale specs, tuners holes size, number of frets, etc.). It does not seem to be a DIY job.
It also seems that G&L would accept to make a full repair with a new G&L neck in their premises only.

I've reached out to G&L (called and also sent an email, so I'm just waiting for a response) to see about a neck replacement. What I've read, they would cost $450 plus shipping to get one installed, and that depends on if they get back to me. My luthier said he could repair if for 3-400, but there's no guarantee that the neck twist wouldn't return.
I'm weighing options at this point and wondering if buying a tribute JB2 or SB2 and stealing the neck off it is a viable solution. Both have the same Jazz widtn (which I prefer) and the quality is pretty good. Only issue is I'd have an import neck on a US body (which doesn't bother me too much).
New JB2 Tribute at MF is listing at $450 (just about the cost of repair/replacement neck) Assuming I could get a sale price, I might be able to score it cheaper.

Thats so weird, I am dealing with a very similar situation with a L2000 trib. The wood was a poor choice for neckstock and shouldve never been used. My Luthier is gonna file frets and whatever else he can to make it playable. Mine was purchased used but never played. I know the pre ious owner. The problem is the choice of wood. The grain is terrible and the neck took the way of the grain. I contacted G&l though it is not warranteed. They offered me a new on with 50.00 off retail and free ship after I send them mine. If your waiting for a response... good luck and keep sending reminder e-mails. I want to see what my luthier can do before I commit to mailing it away. Its cheaper and they are busy at gl. Like I had to re-explain each time i spoke to the guy. I got the feeling each time he hung up I was forgotten. If that happens after I mail my neck.... so Its a last resort. Although they didnt have to do anything for me at all. I cant wait to get it back. Ill only hope it isnt a degenerative problem that worstens. I have 2 other players so no rush. I got other players But want my Tribby back.

They offered 50 off a new neck after I sent them mine. (Still more than I can afford) And free ship to me. It took albout 3 weeks, multiple emails and a few phone conversations to get that answer. But like I said they didnt have to do anything. I just am afraid itll be the same while im without the neck. Gonna see what the luthier can do first. He's good. Im sure if it were a warantee item it wouldve had a higher priority at G&L.
Yeah, I'm leaning towards going the G&L replacement route. Sucks that they're so hard to get a hold of. Seller (who is also a forum member here) worked with me and kicked in a few bucks towards repairs as a good faith gesture, which is appreciated. Either way I'm looking at 4-500 for a replacement neck. Now I just play the waiting game, and try to track down G&L Customer support. Otherwise if they don't get back to me, at least I know I can order a Moses - and it shouldn't have any ski-jump issues in the future.
My roommate and I are opening a new studio. Just did some mixing on this track today. Used my Tribute L2K with the neck pickup (p-bass) on and the high end rolled all the way off. The Chris Lord-Alge bass plugin did the rest.
FWIW, I have some 6-bolt L-Series US and Tribute, and the neck pocket & heel shape and drill pattern are NOT compatible. In general US and imported G&L's have many many small points where they differ, basically every detail is different except bridge and pups.
Question: I'm eyeing an old L-1000, but it seems it does not have the 'birthmark' on the back of the headstock.
I thought all G&L's have this. Could it be a fake, or is it sometimes missing on the older ones?

My 1980 does not have the mark on the headstock, though it does have them on the body. My 1981 does have the mark on the headstock. So I'm guessing that early production necks were made differently and don't have the mark (it's a tooling hole filled with a dowel). What is the year of the bass you are looking at?
True. The earliest ones usually don't seem to have the mark. Pretty sure the mark first appeared at some point during 1980. My late '80 does have the mark, but body and neck are stamped December 1980. Still has the large hex poles, tho.
My neck is stamped September 1980, that narrows it down some.
