G&L Club Part 7

From the G&L Custom Shop, my latest bass - a JB with Matador alnico pickups! Many thanks to Greg at Rocket Music for making it happen.

Truss rod issue. All good now.
Sounds familiar. My SB1 just got a neck replacement for truss rod issues. But G&L managed to make the neck measurements wrong thus preventing me from getting the action I want. They have agreed to allow me to return the bass and be refunded for the purchase.
Yes Memo is great, friendly albeit slow to reply and sometimes you have to email twice to get a reply. And they are great with their warranty policy. But their quality control is poor at best. I had 3 different basses with truss rod issues and a jazz with bad pickups. My jazz is great now but I would never buy another G&L due to the quality issues.

Interesting to note this because I had a M2500 that had a truss rod issue as well. The upside was that Memo replaced the neck free of charge and I bought the bass used, was never the original owner! Clearly this is a known problem at G&L but on the upside G&L made it right. Based on that alone I have little concern about buying another G&L. But YMMV.

My neck replacement took 2 months. Sadly it wasn't done right. It looks great but looks don't matter if it is measured wrong
Mine took much longer.
TR busted. Sent it back in September '19.
Didn't get it back until February '20.
New neck only last 20 minutes, before the TR on the new neck busted.
Had to send it in a second time.
They got it right the second time.

I have had my custom, CLF fretless M2500 for quite a few years. I beat her good. Live in humidity that is off the charts, but I travel to dry areas, cold areas, all over the states. And this neck never, ever moves. The bass is never out of tune. And, the ebony board is barely scratched using my fave, SS rounds on it since I got it. I can empathize with the issues others have experienced concerning G&L's necks. Just thot I'd reassure folk, there are great examples of necks from G&L out there. Mine is stellar!

wow that sucks. Im glad I am not the only one with these truss rod issues. I was starting to think i am jinxed with G&L.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I have four G&Ls and no issues with any of them though the newest is from 2014. I hope they get their issues straightened out. It sucks to be that person.
thank you Rich. Appreciate it! seems like its only newer ones. Perhaps their choice in Dual Action Rods for newer models. like you said, hopefully they get it resolved.
