I've modded a number of G&Ls, including my Fullerton SB2--twice. I've found that audio taper pots always behave as you've described. It seems like from zero to 8, you get a 20% perceived volume increase, then from 8 to 10, you get an increase from 20% perceived volume to full on. I had the same idea as you have, so I tried a linear taper. It seemed to behave exactly opposite. In other words, from zero to 2, I got a perceived increase in volume from zero to 80%, then the rest of the way it crept up to full on. In the end, I decided I'd just have to pick my poison, and I finally went back to 250k audios when Ken reminded me of this: The guy who designed the bass used 250k audio taper, and Leo knew a thing or two. That being said, why not experiment? You can find a good 250k linear a hundred different places for just a few bucks. If you don't like it, just switch it back.

My El-Toro has that thinner wide neck. I really like it.Does that profile have its roots back in G&L's early days, or is it a recent development to follow the current trends for shallow necks?
(For me, my ideal would be nice 1 + 9/16" Thick U, so this is definitely just random curiosity on my part)

Here's a great post by @walterw that makes it sound like a linear pot would be a good choice.
And while Leo was a genius, he never played bass and if he did, he might have liked the abrupt cut off of the SB-2 bridge pup! It's much worse than trying to back off a J bridge pup a touch.

the only folks who prefer audio bass volumes that i can find are those who use lots of compression and distortion, and those who just think the original way was better no matter what.
what's worse is that jazz basses have the one tone necessarily wired "after" the two volumes; this causes the touchiness to be even more exaggerated. (search "gibson '50s wiring")
turn the tone down a bit on a stock J, then drop a volume pot a little; the volume will drop off even faster than before.

even if they were Custom Shop-only like the Matadors I think they would sell well. I have an 88 El Toro and I would order a CS in a heartbeat if they were available.

Hello. I'd like to join the G&L club. I bought a G&L Fullerton Jazz Bass a few months ago. I've been a member of TB for a few years but have never joined a club, I normally just look up relevant topics and occasionally comment. I wasn't even sure how to go about it but a TB member found this thread for me. I want to join the pedal club too. I haven't played seriously in a few decades. I actively played in bands and for solo artists in the Seventies through the Nineties. As you have probably guessed I'm in my sixties. I have been hit with a severe case of pedalboard gas in the last few months acquiring five pedals on credit. I'm now using a Markbass amp too replacing my SWR Workingman's. So there are a few clubs I want to join. Anyway I'm rambling on. Sorry about that. Please let me know how to join this club. Thank you for your time. Patrick.
Welcome aboard, Patrick. This is a very casual club with the only requirement being an interest in—and often an affection for—G&L instruments. [We *really* like pictures of new instruments...just sayin'.] No worries about age; I turn 66 on Monday (I hope). I don't even buy green bananas now... Everyone here has GAS to varying degrees. Not me, though. Argue with me about that and I'll hit you with one of my 24 electric basses, 2 uprights, 7 guitars, mandolin, banjo, or ukulele. Right...welcome again! Join all the clubs that interest you and be sure to subscribe to the threads so you get those nifty alerts. This place is a bag of fun.

I would get an El Toro in Yellow like the one I missed out on in Nashville 1992 but the pickups NEED to be parallel and series not just series
I'm in other TB "clubs" where your member number is the post number in the thread where you psoted your first pictiure of the item that . That could be an easy way to handle numbers here without having someone take responsibility for maintaining a member list.
