I have actually never tried a Fender PJ. I do own a G&L Fullerton SB-2, and it is crazy good...very powerful and, to my ear, versatile. As far as I'm concerned, it's mine forever. If you want a tone control on it, you can easily transfer the volume controls to a stacked (concentric) 250kA pot and add a tone control without having to do any drilling or routing. However, I will say this: The MFD pickups on the SB-2 do not sound like the pickups on the Fender PJ you tried and love. So I would recommend you either try to find an SB-2 to try out, or, since you already know that you love the Fender PJ, you buy one of those. Another thing to consider: You get the same MFD pickups and bridge on a Tribute SB-2, so if price is an issue, that's something to think about. I don't believe Fender can say that about any of their out-of-US basses.

I agree! I had a Fender PJ and didn't really bond with it. The SB-2 (mine a tribute) has phenomenol tone and output. I plan on keeping it as long as long as I am here on this earth.

We have a blind piano mover here in Halifax who's been doing it for about 40 years. I know...but he and the gents moved a piano into our living room and he's a wonder. Half-owner in the high end piano store here. Anyway, he lost one eye by putting it out with (yes...) a BB gun. The other with a bow and arrow, both as a boy. Match that, Ralphie!:facepalm:

I know piano player do used to live here
In my city he also played bass guitar drums clarinet bag pipes and he used to tune pianos
