I believe both the SB-1 and LB-100 come with a default 1.625 width and 9.5" radius, though either can be ordered with the 1.5" width and 12" radius. There are so many options and color combos with G&Ls that it may just be easier to order what you want than trying to find something super specific. Might take less time, too! :roflmao:

IIRC the "stock" SB-2 or SB-2T is 1.5" nut width. SB-1 is 1.625".

What would be better than waiting for G&L to make a bass? Waiting for G&L to make two basses :smug:

Atm, I've got a Squier P fitted with a Dimarzio Model P and Pro Steels. By Christmas I'll have a maple-fretboard LB-100 .... also fitted with a Dimarzio and Pro Steels.

Which isn't exactly wildly different from the rosewood SB-1 I'm waiting for, but different enough for me, especially in feel: steel / maple / gloss makes me play quite differently to nickel-plated / rosewood / satin.

It'll be Ruby Red Metallic, with pearloid pg and vintage tint gloss neck. Empress and quartersawn 1⅝" neck. I can't find a picture of an LB-100 in that combination, nor one of how my SB-1 will look, but the pairing should look a bit like.....

Tomorrow will mark 5 months since placing my order for a Ruby red metallic SB-2T with W/B/W pickguard and light tint gloss maple neck with a 1 5/8" nut. So I definitely approve of your choices! :thumbsup:

As someone with 4 LB100 basses, I really like that particular ruby red model. It is quite the looker.

I'm on the fence about ordering a JB-5, and I had settled on Ruby Red (same finish as my M-2500), white pearloid guard, and maple fretboard with light tint satin finish. It really is a great combo, and that SB-1 posted later looks fantastic. I think I would also want a black pickguard on hand, because that could look cool too.

I think so, maybe even hotter. I had an L-1500 for a couple of years before I got an SB-2, and the SB-2's split-coil seemed at least as hot as that humbucker, but the L-1500/Kiloton humbucker is closer to the bridge which would reduce its output (or at least its low end output). A more direct comparison would be the SB-1/2's split-coil v. an L-2000's neck pickup wired in series.

I ask because I absolutely love the MFD on my fretless kiloton, and would love a similarly beefy pickup on a fretted bass, but not sure I want a fretted kiloton. So I'm looking at the SB-1, sorta casually.

Now why didn't I manage to find that?!? Thank you very much :) Seeing that makes me know that vintage tint was right for me - I like the pearloid to be encircled by color and the light tint isn't quite enough for my taste.

Now I have to decide if the Dimarzio should be cream.....

It's similarly beefy, no question. The MFD split-coil is an absolute monster, much hotter than a traditional P-bass pickup and with more low end. In fact, my SB-2 kicked my L-1500 out of the herd, because it had all the punch with much more thickness that almost always sounded better in rock bands. For a fretless, however, I think the L-1500/Kiloton's tone would be great.

You can always go to G&L's website to see what the default neck specs are for a given model. Here's the SB-2, then just click on the specification tab.

So for the SB-2, the default/free neck profile is the 1.5" nut with a 9.5" radius. That said, anyone can order that bass with whatever neck profile they prefer. It's just a $72 MSRP upcharge when you do that. The net effect is that most dealers probably stick with the default neck profile most of the time just to keep costs down.

That said, I often change things up just to have something different from other dealers. One go-to move for me is to order an LB-100 with the 1.5" nut width (instead of the default 1 5/8" nut for that model).

I have an LB-100 from Greg, some years back, with the 1.5" nut width, 7.5 empress pounds, white pickguard on white, rosewood board. Incredible bass, my go-to for the last five years.
