G&L Club Part 7

Just want to say that while there are many G&L basses to choose from, and I've owned a few, I am so digging the L-2000 I picked up from a swell guy here on TB. I didn't think I would like it as much as I do but the playability (especially the 1.5" width, 7.5" radius) is so comfortable and the tonal variety so great I am surprised I went this long without one! It's a marvelous instrument that is familiar and unique at the same time. And it is different enough from the P, J and MM styles out there without looking odd. Loving it!

Nothing new to you fans...just sharing that if you haven't enjoyed an L2K yet, I think you're in for a treat!

Sorry if I've asked this before, but has anyone tried a Dimarzio Model P in a Fullerton-built LB-100? If so, did it make much difference?

And I've definitely asked this before, but I don't think I got an answer: how do MFDs and Pro Steels get on?

After one failed attempt and a whole lot of
GAS...I've finally got a G&L!! Sb2 with 12" radius. It's easily one of my favorite basses I've ever had my hands on!

I'm sorry, your question reminded me of my late best ever friend who was colorblind. In the 70-ies he put up this wall covering photo af a forest in fall in his living room. We looked at it and admired it for months, chilling at his place when he said, Isn't it great the green of this forest? I thought he was joking, it was clearly all brown red and yellowish. When I pointed that out he said he was colorblind and he thought it was green.


The SB2 bass actually is kind of sparkling lime green.

The biggest difference is probably the pickup. The LB-100 is basically a P-bass with a P-bass style alnico pickup. The SB-1 has an MFD pickup unique to G&L. The body style of the SB-1 is more streamlined and the neck is probably narrower as well, though if you're looking at a custom built, that might not necessarily be the case. There might be some other differences as well, but I think those are the main ones.

Ahhhhhh I see. Sounds like the sb1 would be way more up my alley. Not a huge p bass nut width fan but I suppose the search is on. Tangerine sb1 with a 1.5 and maybe a 12" radius. Took about 3 years to find an sb2 the way I wanted it. I was going to custom order a month ago but the deal told me the turn around was about a year right now.

The pickup in the SB-1 is the same as what you have in the SB-2, so if you want more of the same, the SB-1 is the way to go.

I believe both the SB-1 and LB-100 come with a default 1.625 width and 9.5" radius, though either can be ordered with the 1.5" width and 12" radius. There are so many options and color combos with G&Ls that it may just be easier to order what you want than trying to find something super specific. Might take less time, too!
