Do not get too excited about the G&G hard case. The JB5s do not fit in them unless you move the d string tuner just right (which also means there is a high risk for knocking your tuner on the case). Quickly swapped mine for an SKB.

Thank you. Looking at the picture above, it seems OK this time, with enough space in the case. Take your warning in account though.
NBD: this coming Friday !!! :hyper:

Congrats on the NBD.

Case is OK in the picture because of how the tuner is turned. The issue happens if your tuning key is in the half of its range that makes it stick out farther (key positioned parallel to the bass). If you turn the tuner every time you put it in the case to make sure it does not hit, you should be ok. There are enough reports of tuners being shifted by the case in this thread that I would not rely on that case if you plan to frequently travel with the bass.

Other than the minor annoyances of the case fitment and needing to be shielded, the JB5 is a fantastic bass. It would be nice if G&L would address those two annoyances.

I have a mint SB-2 in the classifieds from Rocket Music. It's a great playing and sounding pj if that's what you are looking for. I've been playing my jazz mostly and need to move this. 8.4lbs! Jazz nut width of 1.5". Burst. Mmmmm…
For Sale - G&L SB-2, PJ, 8.4lbs, burst, Mint, USA
Just sold my 1999 SB-2
Needing another 5-stringer (I have a L-2500). Unfortunately SB-2 and LB-100 are 4-strings only.

My early 1997 L-2500 (4+1 headstock, 1-15/16" nut) in its original G&L molded case looks even tighter...

Photos can be deceiving. My JB5 in its G&G case…

Noting these photos are a few years old from when this thread discussed the fitment issue. Bass has been in an SKB i-Series PJ Bass case since I found the issue. Bass has also had Aguilar pickups added since these pictures were taken.

Yes, they really need to address this issue if they haven't already. I no longer have my JB5 but my tuning machine did get damaged because of the case. G&L sent me two replacement for free but they should have used a different case.

Thank you. Due to the black plush impacting the luminance balance, the picture is overexposed.
The real finish is Clear Orange over bookmatched swamp ash top:

Lovely top, you can really see the grain through the clear finish.

That's a pretty SB-2, too!

A post on Rocket Music's sponsored forum:

"G&L just announced their 2022 price increase.... effective immediately....
There is a grace period until May 1st where dealers can still advertise CLF basses at the old prices. But to buy new CLF basses, a dealer would pay the new prices. The long & short is that I suggest you pull the trigger on a CLF bass if you find one at the current price...."

Just picked up this 1998 SB-2 that was listed a couple of miles from me on FaceBook Marketplace. The photos on the listing weren't great and I originally thought it was a metallic candy apple type red but I was pleased to find it's a lot more sparkly than that. Need to wait a couple of hours until I finish work but I'll soon get the chance to give it a blast at rehearsal this evening.

I picked up this 1982 L-1000 a couple weeks ago in a local sale, but waited until my local luthier gave it a once-over, cleaning and setup before posting photos. It's all original with plenty of mojo. It's my first L-1000 and sounds killer and plays amazing.

I'm not partial to the "root beer" brown burst look, however. I'm considering a refinish in relic'ed shell pink. (hmmm)
