I think bursts come into their own when over special wood. The two tone sunburst can look a bit dour, but over what the advert says is spalted alder, it's something else:

Presumably in the late 70s a particularly ineptly painted Fender was bought by Yamaha HQ to be used as a template for the three tone sunburst, and it's still there, still being used as an example of the ideal.
Is there an error on the G&L website, the SB-2 is not on the "Fullerton Deluxe" list anymore?

But first. Bass arrived today in a nice G&L gig bag. Looks lovely but QC issues have raised their head once again.
First thing, not too serious, the fingerboard is really dry but as it`s a 2021 model and has been sitting about for a while I will cut them some slack. A liberal dose of Monty`s guitars Montypresso fingerboard wax and it comes up a treat, great stuff.
Second issue is the pickguard is not very well cut especially at the end where the jack socket is and there are some other rough edges.
But the major issue is when I plugged in the bass, there was no sound. I removed the guard and had a look at the electrics and saw this
As you can see, the bridge earth wire hasn`t been attached, never even had the plastic removed and soldered. A easy fix even with my terrible soldering but on a brand new bass costing £1200 or $1500 bloomin shody workmanship and qc.
But after sorting this issue, it sounds like a great P bass and better looking imo. And as for the OSTB colour, I love it!

my lb100 is a '21 also and I bought it in September of '21. The fretboard was dry as can be as well. I put on some Ernie ball fretboard oil and the grain really popped after that. It looks so good

I dont, but the neck does feel a bit more chunky than a 2001 Am Std Jazz bass that I used to own.

I don`t know. G&L`s are pretty rare on this side of the pond and I bought it online. But it`s all good now and if I had contacted the retailer, I`m sure they would have sorted it out for me as they are a decent bunch of guys.

How would you all describe the difference between a lb-100 and an l-1000? If you had a new lb-100, would you trade it for a vintage l-1000? I might have an opportunity this week.
I'll let others chime in on the various differences between the two basses. Just know that the vintage L1000 could be over 2 pounds heavier.

I received not 1.....but 2 brand-new Sandbergs (purchased a year apart).......that both arrived with electronics issues. The first one (ordered from CME) needed a replacement volume pot. CME paid for it. The second one (ordered from Music Store Live) needed a ground resoldered. I resoldered it myself. It likely came loose during shipping domestically or from Germany. Once repaired they were stellar instruments.
I've had multiple P-type basses over the years.
The L-1000 is the one that gets me "that tone" that I've never been able to get with an actual P.
Assuming the vintage Wunkay has no issues, I'd make that trade.
Additionally, the oldies play a bit differently.
So if it sounds good, you don't mind some potential extra weight, and like the feel/playability, go for it.
