Yes, I guess you can, but I just didn't connect with that bass. I bought it online based on the talk about it in this thread, but it just wasn't for me.
Very interesting point. I can understand your frustration. I guess it is how you do things that determines what works for you and what doesn't. I hadn't thought of that because I always play with my volume all the way up on the bass to get the most signal to the amp and adjust amp volume if needed. With a bass that has independent volume controls, like the SB-2 or a J, I adjust the volume controls to get the tone I want, then set the volume at the amp. Then the volume controls work like tone controls. I seldom have an actual volume change, but if I do, I adjust at the amp.

It'll put more emphasis on that side of the pickup, but won't net you more low-end.
If a Kiloton is lacking in low-end for anyone, it's either not the bass for them, or is a good candidate for the OMG mode.

I own both, and if you lined them up, the pickups would be edge-to-edge.
I just measured mine. The distance from edge of the bridge to the edge of the pickup on the Kiloton 5 Fretless is 2", on my L-1000 (1982) the same measurement is is 4". That puts them 5" and 7" from the bottom of the basses respectively.
Is the modern L-1000 different?
As well as playing bass, I sing a lot, which is when I need a simple way to adjust volume. I tried a couple ways to solve my issue with the SB-2, because I surely do love that bass. I eventually solved the problem by wiring the individual volumes to a stacked pot, then running that to a master volume. It gives me the sound I love with the ease of adjustment that I need. Before I settled on that, I tried several different balance/blend pots, but I didn't care for any of those. It sounded to me like they castrated the bass (ouch!!). I agree, though, I prefer adjusting the volume at the amp whenever possible.

I confess, I just tested positive for Covid a few days ago (truly), and it must be affecting either my vision or my reading comprehension. But in those pictures, the pickup clearly looks closer to the bridge on the Kiloton than on either of the L1Ks, and distance from the bridge is what really matters. Please correct me if I'm wrong or misunderstanding something. BTW, that Kiloton is incredibly beautiful, and the L1Ks ain't too shabby either. Congratulations.

For comparison sake, the bridge side coil of the Kiloton pickup lines up with the neck side coil of a Tookay's bridge pickup.

Unless my tutoring many years ago was wrong, the distance from the 12th fret to the bridge should be in the area of 17" on a 34" scale bass (allowing for adjustments). So it seems to me that the measurements of the L1K and the Kiloton pickup placements would be different from which ever end you began the measurement. Are we both saying that the pickup on the Kiloton is closer to the bridge? And, given the pickup is the same MFD humbucker, the tone would be brighter on the Kiloton because of that? A friend of mine who had Covid a few months ago said there was a "brain fog" associated with it. Maybe he's more correct than I previously realized. Forgive me, I'm not trying to be contentious, just trying to understand.

Kilo is less bottom, more in-your-face.
Wunkay is fuller, more P-bass on steroids.

Looks like your Kiloton also has a pickup closer to the bridge. Perhaps we're not talking about the same thing?
