I've never seen a block inlay on an L2000 Tribby. Some of the JB Tribbies have block inlays. Alas, necks are not interchangeable. The L2000 has a 21 fret 6-bolt neck, the JB has a 20 fret 4-bolt neck. Special editions happen, but they're rare and random.

Hi folks. I think I'll procure another Tribute L-2000. I'm not in a rush so was wondering if G&L ever do Tribby special editions? I love the square block fretboard markers I've seen on other G&L basses , for example (do they ever do that). Plus right now they only sell the blueburst or the tobacco burst. I already have a tobacco burst and I'm not sure if I love the blue.

so just wondering if I should hold out for a special edition. I kind of dig the natural and orange. Neither of which they produce in Tribby format anymore

I would not wait for a special edition. They have done interesting Tributes (though I do not think any were labeled special edition) but they have been somewhat random. They did a carved top edition and there was another edition that I cannot recall the name of (white with matching headstock). They do have block inlays on some Tributes. L2500 in Black Frost for example.

But there have been some MIJ Tributes that had a "premium" label on the headstock.

I know my buddy @fcleff has had two of the MIJ Tributes, and said they were both beastly.

Nice. I'd seen one or two JP "Premium " L-2000's on eBay or Reverb previously. Interesting proposition but the shipping, import and what to do if there's any issues puts me off.

Also if you look closely at a lot of those models there's quite a bit of corrosion on the hardware. Guess due to the proximity to the sea.

wonder how the fit / finish compares to Indonesia. My Indo is great.

I think I'm warming up to the blue burst now having seen some high resolution shots. Hehe

Yah right? The 5 strings. Sigh. So annoying haha. Those necks look fabulous!

I had one of those very white beauties: gorgeous and great-sounding. I sold it to buy a while US-made M-2500 with matching headstock and ebony board. I miss the binding and carved top, though.

This is what replaced it. It's a personal favourite. I love the ebony board with the white.

Probably been discussed already, but I can't find definite answer..
Are the differences between normal L2000 (+ L2500) and the CLF Research counterparts only really cosmetical to resemble the latter ones to original series E instruments?
When I think about it it narrows to these points:
1) headstock missing hook
2) metal plate under controls
3) choice of woods and finishes (in current line)

And then there is one point puzzling me. On G&L site there is mentioned "twin graphite reinforcement rods" - but only in CLF L2500 "750 series" description (+ L1000 "750" and the 4string L1000). But no reference about these rods either in descriptions of CLF L2000/L2500 "normal string spacing edition" or regular L2000/L2500.
Can't tell if it is intentional difference or just some guy doing these texts missed this point in some of them..

What's an L1000 "750"? I thought that was a 5-string designation. Don't all L1K's have 3/4" string spacing?

Regular L1K is a 4string and have 3/4" spacing. And the L1K 750 is 5string and also have 3/4" spacing. I think in this case the naming of models is really confusing..

Ah, I see it now. It is "slim C" profile on CLF versions vs "medium C" on regular ones. This is probably most significant difference out of my previous points, though I don't know how they differ one from another anyway. I have only one G&L and can't even say which profile I have there..
But maybe the difference in profiles has something to do with those present/non-present graphite rods.. Like 5 strings with slimmer neck = reinforcement rods.. Maybe..

As far as I'm aware (which isn't much) the Slim C is a recent invention purely for CLF Research models. For 4 strings they've all been 1⅝" nut. As for 5 strings, I'm utterly ignorant.
