The original line was distinguished between student and professional models. At this point, it is buy the model you want based on the features you want. They are all generally regarded as professional models.
The only thing that someone may say along the lines of bottom/top of the line would be cost/options tradeoff. From low to high Tribute (imports, all others are US made), Fullerton Deluxe (standard builds), Option Order (order to spec from set options list), Custom Shop (order nearly whatever you want, but expect to pay for it).
I have a US L-2000. I know there is the Fault-line, but is there a short scale with all the tonal options on the L-2000?
Custom Shop has done a few dual pickup Fallouts with L2000 like setup. Expect to pay and wait for it if you want one.
I have played a standard Fallout. It could not do everything my L2500 can, but it is more flexible than you might expect. I liked it but dislike that there is not an option order Fallout. Did not end up buying one as a result.

I used to do it, but stopped when I stopped visiting the forum. It is great for tracking unique/rare instruments. For your more normal ones (Fullerton Standard or Deluxe for instance), I do not see much benefit.
Note I am not knocking the standard builds with this statement. Just pointing out that having a registry for the most common instruments makes less sense to me than for rare ones. As an example my L2500 and JB5 are option order but not particularly unique. I registered the L2500, but did not bother with the JB5. On the other hand, my L5000 is one of an estimated 400 made, it was built near the end of the run, and is the only one registered in Lake Placid Blue. The L5000 makes more sense to be on the registry than the other two IMO.

I've never had any complaints with the tuners on my Tribby.
They stay in tune like they're supposed to.
They also have an adjustable screw on the bottom to adjust the tension.
I set, and forget.
The only reason I'd switch to US tuners is the look.
But,I don't feel like spending the money when the stock ones are more than adequate.
LOVE that color.
And I've always wished that G&L would build a 5-string SB-2. I find them intriguing, but I play fivers exclusively.
So in true talkbass GAS fashion I did this thing where a couple weeks ago made a trade for an L1000. I was already following another L1000 on the verb since it appeared about a month ago and have communicated with the seller on and off.
I decided to spring for it because it's different than the norm and totally dig its somewhat retro odd vibe. This bass is so light it's silly. The finish isn't perfect on it and it appears that some stress cracks from shipping occurred on the body near the bridge and neck. I don't care too much about that because it's just the top poly and barely visible. The pickup is super hot and punchy as hell! Cool grain pattern on the neck too.
I'd like to find more info about this one, didn't the L1000 get reintroduced in 2018? The switch is wired in reverse of the purple one I have and the sheet doesn't show OMG mode which I checked and it has it.

The white pickup really ties the bass together.
I think that's what drew me in. Comparing it to the royal purple is a tough one, they sound similar but this pickup is much hotter. The royal purple is now on the chopping block and I love that one too!
