I've played lots of different basses in my bands over the years, but since I first day I brought my Natural/Rosewood Tribute JB-2, my bandmates ask me to keep using "that one". Everyone loves the tone, including me. I'm not sure what it is either, but it just sounds really good in a band setting.

I liked mine so much that it led to getting my pair of Americans. As for the difference between Tribby and USA tone, it is found in the pickup sizes. The Trib has 2 of the same-sized route, whereas the American is standard Fender USA Jazz routing. The pole pieces on the Trib just seem to line up better, visually, and methinks that there's probably something sonic to that, as well.

I've been playing for over 30 years and this is my first G&L. Nothing like being late to the party, huh?

After owning and playing quite a few boutique fretless basses I was on the lookout for something very basic. Passive, blank plank; just wood, strings, and magnets. I came across this one in the Classifieds a week, or so ago, and decided to give it a try.

As of writing this I've had it in my possession for less than two hours. 30 minutes of that being actual playing time and I am already 99.999% sure this is what I was looking for.

The pared down P-Bass body is HUGE! (pun intended) I love when builders do stuff like this. They are so much more comfortable to play. Much like the Lakland DJ I have been playing for the last 10 years. The reduced size and weight is something I really like.

I guess I am the 2.5 owner of this bass, and it's not a year old yet. Ha! The .5 being a guy who ordered it and had to get out of the deal.

I'm thinkin' this one's a keeper.

how do you add the single coil option, is it k switch? to an l2500?
also, how much does it cost usually with a local luthier, and what switch does it go on? I have heard enough about it to be interested, but haven't seen specific answers to this?

You can thank me for your bass being in existence lol I ordered it last year from Greg @ Rocket Music and I had to cancel on him. The bass still got made but he sold it sans my down payment.

Once again, I'm back in. I got this Empress LB-100 from Rocket Music back in June. I keep falling in and out of love with G&L admittedly, but this is my hands down favorite. The tone, feel, and playability is exactly what I want.

I have used diagram #8 for my L2500, but it's one that has the OMG circuit from origin.

or here: G&L Wiring Diagrams and Schematics

If you go for a Serial/single coil/parallel option with 2 pickups, you need to procure a 3 position ON-ON-ON mini toggle switch (a 4 Pole Double Throw (4PDT) 3 Position ON-ON-ON) to replace the factory 2 position switch ( a 4 Pole Double Throw (4PDT) 2 Position ON-ON) that is the switch located in the middle near the treble knob on your L-2500.

It's a $10 expense for the switch + less than 1 hour work.

so when you do the k switch you lose series parallel?

Holy crap! It's really an accurate thing to say that these MFD's are some serious MF's! I threw some D'Add Chromes on and lowered the action down from the stratosphere on this SB-1 and need a whip to keep the thing tame.

I'm thinking of trying a set of LaBella Tapes on it.
