First off I want to say your LB-100 is AWESOME looking, 2nd what was it about your other G&L basses that you liked & didn't like?
The only reason I'm asking I'm in the middle of working on getting a custom order done thru Rocket Music on a LB-100, I've been JONESING quite a while for a LB-100 and if I get this order done I want to make sure once I get a LB-100 I will never let go of it.

The first LB-100 I let go of because I got it at the end of an 8 month battle to get a custom. The first one had a bad neck and came back with messed up electronics. By the time they rebuilt it and I got a functional bass I was so over the excitement of owning it that I couldn't enjoy it. The second LB-100, I got GAS for something else and I let it go, and then realized I missed that P tone. I had an SB-2 as well but with that it was a bit too aggressive for me. This one I think is a keeper.

MF put an M2000 Tribute on the SDOTD not too long ago, so I bought one to see what the G&L thing was all about. I'm really a J bass kinda guy, but doggone if those pups didn't make me go and find an M2500 Tribute I could afford (thanks reverb!).

I haven't played either out yet, but I will be soon.

Just realized I never posted my new(ish) LB-100 here. Love love love the sound (with GHS Precision flats right now). I only marginally wish I would have chosen the #8 neck to match my JB. I stuck with the #12 because I wanted to stay "true" to the P-bass thing (silly, I know). Going back and forth feels a bit odd right now - like I have to choose which neck I like better. The #12 is great but I might still prefer the #8. Anyone else play 2 different necks regularly? How do you deal with it cognitively?

First, awesome basses! :bassist:

From the very beginning, I've made it a point to have and play basses with a variety of neck profiles and nut widths. (This is the opposite of Angelcrusher's advice--do a search. His points are well taken.)

Now that I've been studying intensively for 3+ years, I'm developing a preference for tighter string spacing. So the 1.75"ers are starting to go.

That said, the adjustment from 38 mm (1.5") to 40 mm (1.575") to 42 mm (1.65") has become pretty automatic at this point. You'll get used to it. :thumbsup:

With regard to the necks, I don't like the thinnest Jazz necks. I have two ASAT necks on Jazz-style builds and those seem fat enough for me to be comfortable. Having discovered those necks, I wondered how I manage with my Precisions. I find it equally comfortable playing my Hog Wunkay and SB-2 with wider necks. My custom Precision build has a flatter radius, I always seem to have trouble with those - Its' all right, but on the shallower side of comfortableness.

Another thing that I have discovered is the effect of the pickup housing design and thumbrest to playing certain songs. With a P and a thumbrest, I have trouble doing little slap-style vamps, whereas I can do those with ease on the Hog Wunkay. Whenever I come back to the Wunkay from longer periods playing the Precisions, I have a bit of trouble adjusting to resting my thumb on the L-1000 pickup. Then I go to the Jazz builds and (they don't have thumbrests) again I have to adjust to the sharp edge of the Jazz pickup housings.

I should just play more.

Hi all,

I have a "what's it worth?" question for you. I have a 2005 3-bolt SB-2 that cosmetically I'd say is 9.5/10, maybe even better. It has a fat #5 quarter-sawn neck that has a prominent ski-jump. It plays, just not that great and never will in its current state. I've already bought another SB-2 to replace it so I'm not really interested in getting the neck repaired or replaced. I'd like to sell or trade the bass with full disclosure but I am unsure of what I should realistically be asking. I'd appreciate your opinions on this.

EDIT: I should add that I also have the OHSC with key, COA, sticker and wrenches.
