Wow, what strings are you guys running on those SB-2 that are lacking bottom? I am curious, because mine is really a bottom dweller.

Well, we're talking LB-100s, which is a bit different from the SB-2... But also, I wouldn't say that it lacks low end, but the treble roll off is high enough that you can't roll it all the way off and get that thick thump with it. It retains enough high mids that all the treble roll off does is takes the clankiness out.
I have a similar issue with my L2k's. The treble "roll off" is more of a "mid boost" and I can't get a really good old school p-bass with flats tone out of them without external eq'ing, or palm muting. I think Leo was probably partially deaf by the time he got around to designing these!
Since when is an L-2000 supposed to sound just like a P bass?

Hipshots will help. As will the hardware used on US basses. That hardware is lighter.
It will take off some 6 or 7 oz. for a set of 4 (compared to Schaller BM brass post tuners, as I don't know what tuners G&L put on Tributes).

But I would first test a (Levy's) 2.5" or even 4" strap with a suede back.

I bought an MIA SB-2 last year that had new Schaller BM tuners (with chrome plated brass post) installed by the seller. Only recently, I was able to find a secondhand set of those G&L ultra-lite tuners with aluminum post (also made by Schaller), and I'm sorry to say it does not make a difference that I can feel. I just bought them for the look and correctness, not for the weight.
The Hipshots (45 gr, i.e. 1.75 oz.) are much lighter and certainly more efficient. The suede strap works very well for some (including me with my ASAT bass).
I didn't know too much about all the specs when I bought but was under the assumption that the tributes came with usa hardware and electronics, for what that's worth.
I actually did get that type of strap last week just because I was at a point in general where I needed something with some padding. With that strap, it sits better but still does pull

Funny, my SB2 thumps more than my Fender P. I understand that you are talking LB100, but still.
I also agree with others that the L2000 doesn't exactly nail the Fender P sound. But in my view, the front pickup occupies the same type of sonic territory as the P. Has anyone ever done one of those graphic eq graphs of a P, an SB 2 and the front pickup of an L2000? I'd be curious to see it. I wonder how close it would be.

I would like to see more graphic frequency spectrum graph comparisons. Listening to you tube videos through iPad speaker doesn't always cut it.
And when people start talking about this cutting through or that rolling off or boosting, I don't know the state of their hearing.
And it would be useful to have some scientific evidence especially for comparison purposes.

They said it was consistent with unprotected hearing around hunting and guns.
Since I don't hunt, I wonder what else could have caused that damage?

Regarding tuning keys - the Tribute ones are quite heavy, definitely heavier than Schaller BM. You can buy the USA tuners direct from G&L when they have stock:

They might not be a straight swap, might have to drill new holes.
Then there is the Hipshot Ultralite if you really want to shave a lot of weight off the headstock. The 1/2"-post model will fit with a bit of extra play in the post hole; not a problem once they are tightened.

the 2011 sb-2 with la bella flat wounds and the 93 LB100 with deadish nickel rounds are nowhere near as dark as my 83 L2000 with settled down rounds, therefore i almost always use that bass live so i'm not competing with a guitarist or another bassist depending on our lineup
