The LB-100 is simply superb, virtually playing itself. The SB-1 as an instrument has a lot more character — it can make the LB-100 seem kinda facile, just as much as the LB-100 can make the SB-1 seem kinda inferior. It's fun going back and forth between the two. Ultimately, character will always trump excellence.

My SB-1 ('87) has a maple board, my LB-100 ('94) has rosewood. The SB-1 neck a bit thinner front-to-back than the LB-100, but both are rock solid and feel great. However, I put an MFD into the LB-100 and that really brought it to life. It's a pound or 2 lighter than the SB-1, as well. Both sound great live and recorded, though I tend to use the LB-100 a little more often.

I've put a deposit in a custom shop order on Wed, Mar 17, 2021, 8:25 AM and it's still not done. Close to two years now.

I can get a custom bass, hand made from raw lumber of my choosing (as opposed to body and neck blanks sitting on the shelf) along with hand made pups, exotic wood tops, any finish, any hardware, in less than a year from a number of the top name builders. For a company that bolts parts together (albeit with awesome finishes), 6 months seems much too long for this work. Perhaps things will improve with some of the new production rules and price increases.

Are you referring to the serial number plate that G&L was doing for a few years? Those didn't exist until a few years ago, and I think they quit not long after they started.

Yes, it has a bare spot, where one has been there. Just curious if the neck is the correct neck that goes with the bass?

That is the way my 2016 Fullerton LB-100 is. I may be wrong but I think they tried that for very few years to make it quicker to put the S/N on if they have to remake a neck for some reason. To me it is obvious why it was discontinued as it make it easy to steal and remove the evidence of it belonging to us owners

Several months ago I've saw IG postings of the body being cut by the CNC then a few months later, a video of the neck being cut in the CNC. It was easy to spot, a mahogany body and a roasted flamed maple neck with ebony board.

If you saw some earlier post on my bass. Others chimed in and were saying some of the retailers had their store stickers on back of head stock. My 86 L2000 has the serial number on the neck plate. I took the neck off to verify the year,and it had the year 1986 stamped on the neck,and in the neck pocket.

I don't doubt that at all. Before Covid, they were a very small company. After opening up following Covid, who knows how many they lost of the few employees they had. And if it was hard to hire good help before Covid, it has to be much harder now. I'm not making excuses, just being realistic. It's the world we live in.

Perusing the local bass store's site and saw this bad boy: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. I thought it was a reissue, then noticed the black crinkle hardware and the eye gauger. And the backside has a battery door.

PS not affiliated with them, but did buy a bass from them a few years ago. If I didn't already have my gold L1K, I might be heading down tomorrow (and if I had a job).

It says it's a 84. And it sure looks legit but the Wunkays are passive, not sure why this one has a battery cover.

Yeah the one with the battery door and skunk stripe is the back of an L2000. Different bass. They did away with skunk stripes by '83.

Nice looking L1000.

It's the same shape, just had to be flipped over and screw holes counter sunk I've suggested them doing that then painting black like the old ones plus painting the bridge to match but I guess they want to go with chrome.

Yeah it doesn't need to be specially cut. I think they only plate one side with chrome so it might still need to be a new part. The underside of a righty playe is probably rough.

They do some black crinkle stuff on guitars these days so it's possible.

Also please mention your way of measuring. Been searching a lot and need a starting point.

Fallout Tribute = almost all the way down on mine.

Former SB-1's = mid way was fine.
