G&L Club Part 7

Just converted my Kiloton tribute to a fretless and it plays awesome! Mighty Mike P bass neck with ebonol fretboard and some straplocks are the only things new to the bass. I had to sand the end of the neck to fit the neck pocket but it did and intonated well too. Tapewounds on a fretless is great!

I can post some better pictures tomorrow but wanted to share that my LB-100 arrived and it's perfect

I have two questions for you all:
1) Keep the black pickup covers or swap them for white ones?
2) I like to use Schaller S locks on all my basses but started using the Fender lock strap buttons recently because they're cheaper. Has anyone done this on a G&L bass? The screw used by G&L is much longer and also looks to be thicker (in the attached picture, G&L strap button is on the right)

Nice bass congrats !! I'd say white pickup covers would look better on that bass, the black matches nothing. Not sure about the strap lock question. May I ask what wood the body is and weight?

It's a 2022 USA bass, but unfortunately me and my bass are far away from the USA. I guess I'm removing the A string's screw and heading to the hardware store.

Or, since I've a set of Chromes that are perfectly happy on that bridge, with the saddles locked together, I'll just leave it be until it next pays a visit to my tech, let him worry about it

Congratulations, That is a gorgeous bass!
Add the White pickup covers for sure. I'd also opt for some fancier knobs (maybe maple?) as well.

True, on a 2013 USA L2K, the E string screws are slightly short.

G&L Club Part 7

I just ordered new set of saddles for my 86 L2000. Original ones so tarnished,and pitted decided to replace them. Plus the two screws on side of bridge were all rusty,like to never got them out. Checking Ace hardware out to replace them. Saddles look a lot worst than in this picture.

I have an emerald green Kiloton with an aged pearl pickguard. I put a white cover on the pickup and it really dressed it up, so I vote for white. I've also put Dunlop strap locks on a couple G&Ls and they've been just fine. I don't know how their screws compare to the Schaller's or the Fender's screws, but I've had no problems so far.

Damn, maple knobs would be fantastic. I was planning on getting a maple Nordymute for this bass so that'd pair really well

The body is alder, I'm not sure about weight… I've never weighed any of my basses before but it does feel pretty light!

Looks great. How'd that affect the scale length, though? Isn't the MM neck for a 20-fret Fender vs a 21-fret G&L? Not that it really matters on an unlined board…

I was wondering that myself. The Kiloton is (normally) a 21 fret neck.

How or why or when that happened, I do not know. Oops.
So, what spec screw do I need?

I have used these for my 1999 SB-2:
UNC 2# 4# 6# 8# 10#12# US Coarse Thread Cross Round Phillips Pan Head Screw Bolt | eBay
8#-32*1-1/2 cut and filed at the required length.
You may need to trim (reduce) the head diameter.

Doesn't look like they have Kiloton 5 pickguards? Or are the Kiloton 4s fine for the 5s?

No, a Kiloton 4 PG will not work. I don't know about anything else, but the cutout around the pickup will be too small. You might try contacting G&L. I understand they make their own PGs now. Or you could contact Chandler Music, which is Pickguard Planet, and see if they'd make you one if you sent them your PG as a pattern.

Not sure about the length because honestly I don't listen when others tell me I can't. I just know I can tune it and still find all my notes even if it's a mm or two further down the neck than I'm used to. No issues with intonation. I would say if anyone is wanting to try it, I proved it can be done.

You took about 1/2" off the scale length, give or take. All well and good if it's your only fretless and you don't mind the side markers being off. Not so fine if you switch between multiple fretlesses of different lengths, some with markers in the "right place", and one without. Yes, "use your ears" and all that, but the different scales mean different muscle-memories for each instrument.

But if it works for you, then good job.

If you saw some earlier post on my bass. Others chimed in and were saying some of the retailers had their store stickers on back of head stock. My 86 L2000 has the serial number on the neck plate. I took the neck off to verify the year,and it had the year 1986 stamped on the neck,and in the neck pocket.

Ok, thanks. My 2016 LB-100 is a screw on Tag from G&L with S/N.
