I'm really thinking of grabbing this bass but am not sure if it's a great deal or not. I'm pretty new to the bass world. I know it's not a clf research.

Looks like a G&L Option Order L-2000 (not the CLF paddle headstock model.) It looks nice, quartersawn neck ! If I wanted it I'd call the store and see if they'd accept less maybe 1200, or I've heard sometimes GC will give a %10 discount for asking. Never hurts to try. Ask what their bottom line price would be. PS my feeling is it's priced decently, not a steal but not a rip off. Others will know more, good luck and post pics if you get it !

If you decide to buy and have a local GC, have it shipped to store and try it when you pick it up. I always do this with GC used and it has saved me a few times on returns. One memorable instance was a bass described as excellent that had issues. Store refunded my money and shipping since the issues were obvious.

@Sasquatchbreath The 1.5 nut width and 12inch radius is also no longer available through built to order, only 1 5/8th and 9 1/2 radius I believe, you'd have to go custom shop now to get those neck dimensions. It'll be a thin fast neck I think, sounds nice. Hopefully it's not to heavy

I am going to get a l2000 which will be more bass than I need and way beyond my skill set.

I'm not stuck on this one just thought it looked like a decent deal. Should I worry about the thinner neck? I know some like that but I'm too new to know.

I am going to get a l2000 which will be more bass than I need and way beyond my skill set.

I'm not stuck on this one just thought it looked like a decent deal. Should I worry about the thinner neck? I know some like that but I'm too new to know.

I would run to local shop and find something with a thin neck and give it a try. The nicer Ibanez basses typically have thinner necks and are in a lot of stores.

Still thinking. Looks like it was built 2 days before my mom passed. Odd but I don't know if that is good, bad, or irrelevant lol.

I guess I could have it shipped to the KC store and make my mind up when it is in hand.

Hello everyone… I just took my 1st plunge into the Custom Shop world! Greg from @RocketMusic has been very helpful in the process, so now it is about waiting.

My trusty 1984 L-1000, which I got in 1995, was my 1st 'proper' bass. This photo is from that time.

2nd photo is from a few weeks ago… the bass has held up way better than me, and I'm still out of focus.

Anyway, this year I turn 50 and I decided to get a companion L-1000 as a gift to myself. It will be natural swamp ash, no control plate, with an ebony board and black hardware… let's see how that turns out!

Will keep you posted!

Hello everyone… I just took my 1st plunge into the Custom Shop world! Greg from @RocketMusic has been very helpful in the process, so now it is about waiting.

Or have it shipped to your house where you can take your time inspecting it. Take several days, if you like. That way time is on your side. Sometimes issues may go unnoticed for a while. If everything is okay, you saved a trip to the GC store.

If you ship it to the store, you have to make a trip there just to look at it. If you miss something while you're there, but find a problem later at home, then you're headed back to the store yet again. At which point you'll may be expected to explain why you thought the bass was "okay" when you first inspected it, but now something's wrong with it.

Either way you've already paid for it. If a refund is warranted you still have to go through the same process to get your money back, no?

Am I missing something here? Can you have a used GC bass sent across the country to another store for free just to look at it in person before actually buying it and paying for it first? Me thinks not, but....

Swamp ash is 'Build to Order' only now...
I had owned two ASAT Bass and one SB-2 with a 1.5" width nut, that was not a concern at all.
And I have said all my thoughts in the other thread...

You have to buy it first. I've bought 3 of my basses this way, and the road trip to the nearest GC was 130 miles each way.
On each occasion, I inspected the bass at the store, took it home,and cleaned it up, set it up with strings i liked, and played it for weeks. I still have 2 of the 3. Only one bass was not satisfactory, and it wasn't something I could fix easily,
so it got returned. GC has a full satisfaction refund guarantee, (45 days if I remember correctly), so it was
no hassle at all other than the road trip.
(Which we would've done anyway for groceries/supplies/medical).

As far as the neck thickness, don't worry all that much about it. I have an almost identical bass to that one, and the neck is not super thin like an MIM Fender Geddy Lee. Also there are stiffening rods in the neck in addition to the truss rod. All in all, that's a heck of a deal for that bass, and I think you should jump on it if you can.

When you get it shipped to your home, if there's a problem, you can return it to your closest GC. You don't have to ship it back. That's a nice advantage. Plus you get to thoroughly inspect it at home, so you can do it through your own amp and equipment, and in your pajamas! Make sure to ask them ahead of time (1) how much the shipping is, and (2) exactly how long you have to return it no questions asked. Get the person's name that you're talking to, or better yet, have him or her email you that info with their name typed in the email. Save your receipt. All should go well--it did for me. I still have the 2018 Kiloton I bought used from them a few years ago, and it's amazing. But protecting yourself is always a great idea.

Right, which is why having one shipped to my house is always best/easiest for me. Incidentally, I'm returning a used Axcelerator to GC tomorrow. It's a total wreck of a bass, so it goes back. I returned an Axcelerator to Music Go Round last week, too. (not having very good luck with finding a decent Axcel).

Exactly. My question was rhetorical to point out the futility of having a GC bass shipped to a store first, when shipping directly to one's house makes way more sense. I'm returning an Axcelerator to GC tomorrow, actually. This GC return marks the fifth consecutive online used GC bass (out of five total) that I'll be returning, over a span of almost ten years. They're battin' a thousand!

Love the specs on this one (although I'd prefer a 9.5" radius, like my other basses). Exactly what I would want if it were some other color. If I could find this in one of their red finishes, I'd be all over it. Perhaps even some other color, but my JB is the same color, and I'd prefer something different (my Kiloton is Blueburst and my Yamaha TRX504 is black. Need something else and I want a L-2000.)
