I like the sound of a Wunkay,
And would likely just put in a "dummy" j pickup (not connected to the electronics, and use it as a thumb rest when playing back there.

I have the same issue on my JB2 Tribute. Haven't tried to do anything about it yet. Would be interested to hear how others have addressed this.
Happened to find a second one of these within a week and its basically like new.

Well I pulled the trigger on the emerald blue Kiloton in the clearance store. Not sure how long it takes to get out the door but I'm excited to see it. I was actually only about 20 miles from the factory but didn't want to chance OC traffic and missing a flight and since they don't pick up the phone, I had not idea if anyone was actually there. Oh well.

It was original a L-1505. I had major issues with the pre-amp and it was replaced several times but still sounded terrible. I ripped out the active electronics and went passive and added the P-pickup. Now the control layout is Volume, balance, tonestyler, and switches are on/off (volume kill) and series/ parallel
Any of you who have purchased a "B Stock" instrument from G&L, can you share your experience? Just wondering what to expect? Do they prep it nicely at all or just toss it in a box? Super curious but of course, time and NBD will tell...
A few years ago I bought three B-stock basses over a period of maybe 9-10 months, all Tributes. They shipped them next business day, and they arrived safe & sound. They had accurately described the slight problems. The only issue I found other than what they'd described is the volume pot on the bridge pickup of a JB-2 wasn't grounded...easy fix. I don't remember any set-up issues, but I would've set them up myself once I got them. I still have 2 of the 3 I bought. The one I sold I sold because I ended up getting tired of the color...no fault of G&L's.
It seems like they do not ship on Fridays but other than that, my two shipped quick, were well packaged (bubble wrapped headstock and wrapping around the case), and arrived in ok shape.
Setup on the fretless Kilo that got a new neck was a little high (prior to the new neck). Took it to a local guitar tech that I have used for years to swap strings and do a setup. He could not set up due to maxed out truss rod. Tech called Memo for me and got the warranty process started. All I had to do was call Memo to get my return label. It was a painless warranty experience.
The other B stock I purchased came in fine (Tribute Fallout). Both were accurate or in better shape than described in terms of the cosmetic flaws. Kiloton flaw was accurate (it had a penny size nick in the clear coat on the back of the bass; hard to describe that incorrectly). It took me some time to find the flaw on the Fallout bass. It was described as scratches. I eventually found a minor indentation on the fretboard that is cosmetic (does not impact fretting).
I do not consider the maxed out truss rod to be a missed issue with the instrument. G&L did not list it as an issue, so they honored the warranty and replaced it. I expect they would have either not sold the bass or already replaced the neck if they were aware of the issue prior to listing it (saves them from paying shipping to and from for the warranty work).
Edit: US B stock was not marked as B stock in any way and just looks like a slightly used instrument (but has full warranty). US model includes the standard G&L build sheet package and warranty card. Case included with the US was a new one. My B stock was several years old but my case was stamped with a recent build date.
Tribute B stocks get stamped with 2 on the serial number. I expect this slightly reduces resale value on the Tributes. Warranty card was not included in mine but printable online, so I sent one in.

Latest experiment with strings: put a set of Pro Steels on my SB-1. I was just curious, and hadn't really thought through how they might work out. They sound fantastic.
My SB-1 is set up to be warm rather than aggressive, and that warmth carries through despite the Pro Steels reputation for being a bit chilly.
Also, the bass's smiling character is coming through still — better than it managed with Swing Bass, which made it a bit less joyous and a bit stern.

I ordered one about a month ago and it came in a week from Cali to NY. It was packaged nice and tightly.
I was a little bummed when I read a post that said that G&L doesn't ship on Friday. And since this is Good Friday I thought for sure it wouldn't happen. But Tim from G&L called and told me he was getting the bass out today via FedEx! Be here next Tuesday! Very excited. Pics of course.

That's fast especially with Easter Sunday. Tim shipped mine on Friday 3-31 and it arrived Sunday 4-2.
This L-2000 fretless is just killin' it. Then again all my fretless G&L's do that.

Thoughts on this on my new-to-me-L1000. Previous owner/s had put in a thumb rest. The thumb rest was gone when I bought it, but the screw holes remain. I'm probably not going to do anything to the holes, or put in a thumb rest. But I'm a *tiny* bit concerned about the finish and what could happen over the years? It is an '84.
Maybe some googly eyes are in order.
