Exactly as described and not a jot more. No humbuckers, no active.

A Jazz bass: two single coil pickups controlled by VVT knobs.

The three switches offered three little bonuses: the first "moves" the neck pickup a towards the bridge; the second "moves" the bridge pickup towards the neck; the third puts them in series.

Find a standard sound for you (eg mine would be neck outer at 8, bridge inner at 5, tone somewhere around there) and then you've a handful of little tweaks available.

(And the body is a sensible shape and the nut isn't 1½" and there's no pg )

Ahhh..... Makes sense now. Sorry, my brain is still in Saturday Morning Mode here. I believe you could buy an L2000, have it shipped to you, do the mods, and be playing it a long time before G&L comes out with an MFD-equipped jazz bass, so I say do it. Even if G&L beats you to the punch (unlikely!), yours would be more versatile.

I've been flipping through the pages of online string sellers this morning and discovered that Rotosound makes a pressurewound string they call "Solo Bass." Unlike the popular GHS Pressurewounds, which are wound with Alloy 52, these are pressurewound with stainless steel wrap. Has anyone tried these, and if so, what are your thoughts on them?

I'd like to wire an L2000 with a separate switch for each pickup for single coil option. That way it could be played with both singles, or either pickup could be singled individually while the other is still in humbucker mode. Of course, that adds two switches to the three already there, giving it about as many switches as a 747. And five switches has to really confuse us bass players...we're only used to counting "1, and 2, and 3, and 4."

I have done this already. And it doesn't disappoint. I used an Awesome Guitars T4-plus switching system so I can run each coil in and out of phase as well amongst the dozens of other settings. The only downside is that some routing is needed to create more space in the control cavity.

Thanks for the guidance. I actually posted my same post on the GHS pressurewound club and got a response with the same substance that you mentioned. I'm more a nickel-wound fan myself, but I have a set of Roto Nexus strings on my LB-100, into which I put an MFD. They're wound with Alloy 52, same as the GHS Pressurewounds, but they're a roundwound, coated string. They sound fantastic on that bass, but the tradeoff is they have a lot of finger noise. I don't know if that's the strings or the sensitivity of the MFD. Maybe it's just my poor playing technique. Nah, that can't be it Can it?

I thought the final word on this was that they couldn't make them work in regular dimensions, but will fit them into a CS bass?

I have, but it was so long ago I don't remember what I thought of them!
Seems like a good idea, though.
Aren't rotosounds super cheap? I haven't used any of their strings in decades…

That's one of the best looking 3TS color mixing I've ever seen, and looks particularly beautiful over the pine.
Edit- this is also the 2nd instrument I've seen with the painted black headstock,
which looks much nicer to me than the usual maple. I still prefer a matching headstock, though.

I've tried them once back in the late 90's but can't remember much about the feel and the sound. The fact I've never bought another set would certainly mean I didn't like them back then.

My "B Stock" Kiloton was in better shape than anything you would buy new at GC. I couldn't find a single issue with mine. Steal of a deal in my opinion. That Wunkay is beatiful!

And are they still running 10% off? I thought I saw an email to that effect...
