G&L Club Part 7

Anyone on here do the Premier Guitar Mystery stockings? I saw they have a G&L Kiloton this year. Appears to be a US one.

For those who do not know what it is, PG collects gear from sponsors every year. People buy their "mystery stocking" and get whatever random stuff is sent. I have had everything from boxes with picks/strings/ugly straps to guitar pedals and EMG pickups in the past. Have not landed a guitar or amp from it yet, but would be thrilled to land the G&L (even though I know the odds are slim enough that there is no way it is going to happen).

Admittedly most of the gear is guitar oriented. I was a little surprised to see the Kilo.

There is no actual boosting of the bass in a Kiloton. It's just called that. It's a passive bass, so nothing can actually be boosted as that requires a preamp. However, the bass sounds bigger and louder as a beautiful side effect of putting the pickup coils into series with each other. So series will always sound deeper and louder.

Yeah, that's what I hear with the switch in the "angled down" position. Just a bigger, louder sound.

Any logic (human factors) to the angled Down switch position being for lower tones and the angled Up position tending toward better highs? Maybe it's random the direction the switch ends up in at assembly time, maybe it's changed across model years, or maybe it's moved? Mine moves in a horizontal direction (L<—>R).

So, @SteveAG's bass is a Tribute and the switch is mounted up and down. And @ProbablyTooLoud has two USA basses and the switches are both mounted left and right.

That matches my experience with multiple Tributes and USA G&L's. Doesn't really matter, just an interesting finding.

Haha...haven't run into that scenario yet, but....considering what a typical G&L wiring job can look like (read: bowl of spaghetti), anything is possible! :D

In the event that it may happen, there's always The Nuclear Option (God forbid!)....break out the soldering iron. ;)
