It came with tort. G&L used to sell mirror guards, but stopped. I thought the mirror would look better so I ordered one from WD Music.

The one I'm looking at (and trying not to buy) has a white guard, but also comes with the original tort. I like it better with the white guard.
They really would make a nice matching pair…
Ya I've been stalking that listing on Reverb also and would buy if I had the $$ at the moment. That's a nice looking bass, I'd buy it if I was you. Just under 9lbs also, nice!! The guy has an incredible 5 string Buckeye Burl Lakland for sale also, wowsa. P.S., I think the white pearl looks a lot better than the original tort with that color on the SB-2 also.

I'm in a pretty bad way finacially now or I absolutely would! I wish one of us could get it, whoever does will like it, I have an SB-1 and love it, an SB-2 is on the list of wants LOL. Have a great day!
Just what different holes need to be drilled when changing the Tribute tuners to the G&L light weight tuners? Is it the center post or do the four mounting screws not line up?

Fishing for opinions here- I've decided to install a second MFD in my recently acquired 1981 L2000 that came sans preamp, with the neck pickup wired straight to the output jack. Would it make more sense to order a replacement preamp from G&L and use it as the foundation for getting the instrument back up to snuff? Or should I simply wire the pickup in and keep the circuit wholly passive? Planning on wiring up at least one single coil configuration. I have a couple of 3 way switches handy, as well as a blend knob w/ center detent and one volume pot.
I'm really enjoying the overall tone from the raw neck pickup.. but…..
Thinking it might make more sense to just start with a stock preamp and go from there. I'd have to source a battery plate for the back of the bass though. lol let me know what you think!

Seems a lot of people like the L2k in passive mode, so that's a serious option. Personally, I like being able to go active too, but it all comes down to personal preference.
Color me dense, but I'm trying to figure out how you're putting a second MFD in an L2K that already has two. I obviously missed something. Whatever the case, G&L offers that preamp pre-wired for a good price in their online store. I personally prefer active mode.
Apologies- I posted a NBD thread last week on it, so figured everyone saw it (lol) but it came with only one pickup. I have a second one on order and on its way from G&L. I'll probably order a prewired preamp next week.
Ah...thanks for the clarification! I bought a used L2500 six years ago that had been messed up badly. The previous owner not only removed the preamp, but he installed an aftermarket preamp that was totally inappropriate.
I bought that pre-wired preamp and installed it and it worked beautifully.
The preamp has nothing to do with tone control, the tone control is all passive. Preamp is only a "line driver" to recover signal loss from long cable runs, but to each their own, mine never had batteries installed.

I wired my Tribute L2500 up this way. Selectable caps for the tone control are more useful to me than the factory active treble boost/active/passive switch. Still maintains the passive bass cut knob.
