I have a couple Kilotons, which are passive, but I like the preamp in the L-series basses. It seems to add just a little bit of sparkle to the tone, which I like. And of course, at the flip of a switch, it can become a passive bass. Lots of possibilities with an "L".

I like the sound of that! I think I'm going to set it up with the pre-wired preamp & sort out all of the split coil stuff later on. I've never owned an L2K with the stock configuration before (the only other one I've had was the Blackburst BABP edition, which had the K Mod config) so it'll be a fun ride

Oh wow you got one with the black crinkle bridge & control plate... I would restore w/ an OE preamp myself.
I suggest go with passive VVT. 2 switch for individual pickup parallel/sc/series, the last one for passive/active
@cataract, I like your idea of getting a pre-wired preamp for your L2000. Why decide in advance if you want an active or a passive L2000 when you can have both. The flip of a switch and you have that. It would be the way I would choose.

No, nothing that would bolt on. There's a big hole under the bridge, too, so you'd have to find something that covers that. If I remember, the edges of that hole would extend past most bent-plate style bridges. You might cover it with a Hipshot B-style, which you can get in aluminum.
The G&L bridge is very much proprietary and designed to have a bar underneath that pulls the bridge against the end-grain of the body for better energy transfer between the strings and body. Thus the big hole under the bridge.

Lighter, no and the baseplate of standard bridges won't cover the oval route under the bridge foot.
You could lighten the tuners.
You could fashion a thin baseplate (aluminum sheet) to go under the bridge to cover the "foot" routing in the body, then use a bridge of your choice.

Thanks fellas. I suppose another option would be to either drill holes or mill hidden routes underneath with a milling machine. I need to take it off and see exactly how much it weighs.

Are you comparing between a 4 string and 5 string CLF?
the 5 string JB I have is way slimmer compare to the CLF.

Please forgive my ignorance, but I have a question about the L 2500. Does it have a coil tap? Is that the same thing as the series/parallel switch?
A coil tap can choose between running the humbucker with the coil on either side or both together humbucking, Series/Parallel just choses how the coils are wired when playing them but isn't a "coil tap" as such. If you have SCM, Single Coil Mode, (running just one coil of the humbucker is called single coil mode) it's kind of a coil tap but it only runs the coils in the humbuckers closest to the neck and bridge, you can't choose like say, my Lakland that has an actual full coil tap switch and I can choose front coil, both in humbucking mode or back coil.
