... Also, the SB2 is my favorite bass of the 15 I own. I get compliments on the tone all the time and it is the easiest neck to play I've ever played. Sometimes I think I'm not really playing it, but only holding it so it can sing.

I just picked up an SB-2 a couple of weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. The MFD versions of those pickups are really amazing to me.

Either of you have an issue with the G string? (No, not the one your significant other wears! Get your mind out of the gutter! ) Mine seems weak, regardless of what I do to pickup or pole height. Just isn't as loud as the other strings. My SB-2is a 2019.

I've had absoultly no problems at all with my SB2.

clear red (such a creative name) over empress. Huh, it's not on the list of G&L BTO finishes - I wonder if they actually dropped it (they still have redburst) or if it's just another G&L website oversight.

I really can't remember the name of the color. I can't find the paperwork on it, so I can't tell you what it really is.

My G is good, too.

Sorry folks, this is anti-climactic. My new SB is exactly like one I already have! I know it's lame, but this is an opportunity to tell you a little bit about me. I think the 80s SB-1 is the greatest bass of all time. It's also insanely underrated. Which is fine because I will buy them if necessary.

I think it's the one in the middle. From 87-89 ish. The neck is just a little bit smoother than the one I already had and it weighs less. The levitating SB-2 is moving on.

A couple interesting notes on the finishes. I think the one on the left is poly and I'm fairly certain the black SB-2 on the right is nitro. The one I think is poly does not scratch easily and it has this weird greenish gray effect in the light. It's an off black as if something went wtong with the catalyzer or whatever. The one in the middle seems like it might also be nitro. It's closer to a pure black like the old SB-2 and the finish is pretty soft.

So perhaps they were making some changes to the finishes in 87-88. I'm not taking off the neck yet, but I think the middle SB-1 is a little bit older than the 88 just because the finish nuances.

Thanks for sharing! So all nitro through 85 the the base coats became poly. Interesting.

That broken guard has really caused some strife! Its definitely a player.

Well, you gotta think, one would have to reach out to Pickguardian, browse through all their available options, antagonize over what to get, and when they've decided, place the order and then sit and wait… and when it comes, they have to install it themselves! That's worth a good 80% off market value, right?

Congrats! What's crazy is that it looks exactly like the one I won on Ebay that the seller admitted to selling the previous day. I wonder if it's the same one. If so I'm glad it stayed in the club!

They were pretty ubiquitous. I also have an '87 SB-1 that looks exactly the same.

No worries, I'm actually still waiting on my UPS damaged SB-2t to be repaired by G&L so that should satisfy my SB urges when completed. Was supposed to be finished in November but they are lagging. Can't wait to post pics when I get it back!
