G&L Club Part 7

Have I mentioned I like red G&Ls?

I've been toying with the idea of selling my current LB-100 and picking up one of those red Fullerton Deluxes. I just haven't been able to justify the effort or the cost, seeing as I'd probably get less for mine than I'd spend on the red one. But it sure is good looking.

I am so bummed out, I won an Ebay auction for a early 90's SB-1 and then the seller admits to me after the fact that he sold it the day before on another site! He just forgot to take the Ebay auction down. Thanks in advance for letting me vent🙂

I had that happen on a drum throne once. Best part was when eBay did not let me leave negative feedback. I no longer leave negative or positive feedback on eBay since it is pretty clear they severely censor the negative by not allowing it in cases where it should be applied.

Sold this 2005 back in 2017 and had been trying to track it down and back in August 2024 was surfing TB and out of the blue fellow TBer contacted me and asked if I still was interested in the bass I had been trying to find. He had been away from TB so I lost contact with him. So after 7 years I managed to get this L2000 back again. 2005 L2000 US black with the maple binding with original G&L molded case. And still in great condition. Has nice quarter sawn neck. And now I have been trying to get a 2009 L2000 transparent blue with maple binding back and been searching but no luck.

Very nice! I once owned a JB-2 with the same color/binding combo. I regret parting with it.

My belief is that eBay in this case will recover their missing fee and charge the seller's account…

Sounds like transparent red, similar to the Irish Ale they used to have on some Tribute instruments, only maybe a slightly lighter shade.
I've never seen one of those. Also, the SB2 is my favorite bass of the 15 I own. I get compliments on the tone all the time and it is the easiest neck to play I've ever played. Sometimes I think I'm not really playing it, but only holding it so it can sing.

My avatar is a Tribute Irish Ale Kiloton. G&L also offered a Tribute strat-like guitar in that color, a Legacy if I remember right. Either Cort stopped making that color or G&L stopped buying it, because it's no longer available in either instrument.

I have forgotten the actual color name, but it isn't really metalic. It is translucent and you can see the grain underneath.
clear red (such a creative name) over empress. Huh, it's not on the list of G&L BTO finishes - I wonder if they actually dropped it (they still have redburst) or if it's just another G&L website oversight.

That's too bad, Marco! LMK if you ever want to buy back the SB-1 you sold me - the Ibanez RKB I got from you last year meets my P-bass-ish needs better overall.

I just picked up an SB-2 a couple of weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. The MFD versions of those pickups are really amazing to me.

LOVE the natural wood "binding" G&L offers. Really a genius idea, and a great look!
