I am having the same problem with a used SB-2, the pickups are out of phase and buzzing. Does someone have a wiring diagram handy? It needs re-wiring. Thanks.

Take a L1000, add a bridge pickup and a preamp, and you've got a L2000. Select the L2000's neck pickup, put it in passive mode, and you've got yourself a L1000.
The 1000 comes stock with "bass boost mode" instead of series, but that's a just minor wiring difference. I gave bass boost mode a try in my L2500, and found it pretty useless. I don't think many people have sat around thinking "Man, my L series just doesn't have enough bass!".
A L1000 might be your thing if you want something simple. Or at least more simple than the L2000.
That's probably accurate, as long as both basses share MFD pickups of the same type/era. That's not usually the case though, as most 1000's were built in the early days of G&L, while most 2000's were built later with slightly different sounding pickups. Not an "apples to oranges" comparison, but not exactly "apples to apples" either.
The L2000's neck pickup is in the same location at the L1000s.
A l2000 is just a l1000 with more stuff added onto it. Think Sb1 vs SB2. Except you don't lose a tone knob by adding the extra pickup in this case.

NJ Bass & Guitar is a G&L dealer but he usually doesent have much on hand from G&L. Tiny little shop, nearly claustorphobic and the walls are literally bristling with guitars & basses.
Bass Specialties down in Phila was a cool shop until he closed doors.
Saw a lovely tribute L-2500 for sale... I have a Fullerton L-2000, though! I don't need another... Even if it were to be K-modded...to sound like a Jazz... I might have to get it.

As your friendly neighborhood enabler, I will tell you that the Tribute will sound different than your 80s-era L, so it's basically like getting a different bass. Do it.
I've only known about Robbie's for the last few years and drop by once a month. I think they only recently started carrying G&L.
However, NJ Bass and Guitar I've known about since the '70s...Jay has as much stuff hanging up in that little place as some Guitar Centers!
Have you been to 8th Street Music since you're down that way?
Not familliar with them but will check it out. I live in Middlesex county, so the main independent shops are Russo Music in Hamilton, NJ Gtr & Bass, Loria up in Rahway etc.
Lou Rose in Edison finially closed their doors. I wasnin the area picking up new kitchen appliances at Derby and The Rose was all bare windows & stripped clean.
Jay at NJ Gtr gets a bad rap due to how small his shop is and he's a little quirky; but he's got a massive inventory and some pretty high end stuff. You can go from a $99 beater to custom Sadowsky or F-Bass at that place. Its pretty amazing.
Yes, NJ Guitar and Bass Center is very cool. I've been there a few times, and checked out his booth at the Philly area guitar shows.
8th Street Music isn't a G&L dealer and isn't great for basses generally, but they occasionally have cool stuff and will usually offer great deals. They are fantastic for recording gear. I've bought a Zoom R16 there, plus a great set of monitors, several microphones, connectors, etc. It's a great shop, and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I wish it hadn't moved from Center City Philly, where it was within walking distance of my place.
Philly does have a G&L dealer, Roxy Guitar, which has an incredible inventory of guitars including a great G&L selection. He often orders cool finishes, which is great. Unfortunately, he only carries a handful of basses, and usually no more than two G&L's.
There's a G&L dealer in town here (think he's still there) but the last time I was in there the only bass he had was a Tribute JB. Really do not like the guy though, old racist jerk. I wasn't raised like that and it really pisses me off.
Older G&L's came with the SKB-type cases... though I don't remember exactly who the manufacture actually was. Tolex cases were optional as I remember. Anyway, this was around the 1990s. I remember my 1990s G&L S500 guitar just barely fit the case, so they weren't terribly concerned about precise fitting cases-- at least for a period during the 1990s
Interestingly, G&L has moved away from their "current" fitted Tolex cases a year or two ago, and are now using generic G&G Tolex cases.All that to say, if it's from the 1990s era, there is a very good chance that's the original case~

Agreed. I had an SKB case very much like that with an older L2000, although I don't believe it was from the 90's though: 2004 if memory serves [and it often doesn't]. Mine was more form-fitting, though. See below. 4 latches.
New G&L 4-string gleeful speculation: Do you think the pick-ups will be made in-house? Or will they be from an outside manufacturer, like Lace or Seymour Duncan?

I have the very same one as @jmlee but with 4 butterfly latches (one has holes for a padlock). It came with my 1997 L2500 Custom (with a 4+1 headstock) that I bought second hand last year, so I cannot say if it's the original case to the bass. I just can say that the bass (that I believe has a slightly larger body compared to later L2500 models) and the case fit together quite perfectly.
