I don't think one is better just different. McCartney played a short scale, Hofner, and a long scale Rick. Bill Wyman also played both.
Exactly. Doesn't really matter. Choose the bass that sounds right and don't worry about what scale it is. Don't limit your options to available short scales as you may find there's a much better bass *for YOU* that isn't short.

The "Birthplace of Bolt-on" is homage to Leo.
The instruments are made close by the original locations of Leo's businesses, but not the same location (they're about 1.5 miles apart). However, all are in Fullerton; from his original radio shop to the guitar/bass factories.

Well, I have owned several G&L basses, but I'm now returning to the club soon! Placed an order for a MJ-4 from Rocketmusic today, and it's going to be something like this one:

I'm going to take the plunge on an LB-100 and plan on installing a Hipshot extender. Does anyone know which key length matches the factory keys- the short or the regular? 
I'm back in the club! I just bought a prototype M2000 Tribute from someone here on TB. It doesn't have the black binding stripe that the other GTB's have and doesn't say where it was made on the back of the headstock.
Unfortunately it got damaged in shipping
At first I thought I would either fill it with nail polish, or use a white auto touch up pen for color and fill it in with super glue. The problem with this is that the chip is long and is on two different surfaces, so the super glue would run out.
I chose instead to fill the chip with "white" wood filler and then sand it down flush with the surrounding finish. I used successive grits of micromesh and now it's pretty darn smooth.
I'm going to repaint the whole thing in this color
I wouldn't have the pin stripes or black pickguard, but I still think it would look smokin!
I think I'm going to use this logo on the headstock
or should I use this one?

Looks like blueburst to me. I've seen a lot of variation in blueburst - some almost look totally black, some almost look totally blue. And if it's older/old enough it can start fading to blue-green.

Thanks guys, yes it's a handful! My first 5, that low b combined with the MFD pickup is pretty brutal if you're not careful!
