Night and day difference. The 1 5/8" neck is my preference, much smoother and easier to play than the chunky 1 3/4" neck. After a week of short fingers , I just kept thinking about this having played it in the store 3x already. You did it! How does your custom USA feel compared to the tribute?
Figured I would try this here in the G&L club. Any G&L L2000, L2500 fretless players here care to post up some sound clips (bridge pick up, Neck, both, parralell/series) ? How about any fretless Kiloton owners? Much appreciated if you can! Not much out there on the web pertaining to G&L fretless basses in general.

Thanks for that LFG, the tone on One Day is to die for - not that the others are shabby but that growl makes me drool : )
I want to "rationalise" my gear for my
getting doddery years but need to "see"
the whole thing working in my head before commiting sort of thing.
So far it's a 2.5K Fretless G&L/Tribute with my Eden 550 pushing two fEARful 12/6/1's. Sounds good in my imaginationing - what do you think?
Cheers Maurie.
Right there with you. Took me a while to truly understand what the system did. I can crank any sound I want out of mine, though I tend to favor the neck in series, with some treble. Like a P bass, but more ass.Hey everyone - this post is a little self satisfying but I guess I cant believe I've never really tried to understand the L2000 electronics.
A little context....I have owned 2 mid 90's L2000 for about 6 years and have always loved the playability and tone. I've always known the bass and treble we cut only, therefore I've always run them fully on....why would I want to cut right? I always imagined that with both these controls dime that was giving me a "flat" response from the bass.
Now as I said I've always loved the tone from this bass, but playing live in my band I've always thought the tone became too muddy and overpowering, and I struggled to EQ it down.
So last night after a gig where I was frustrated with bass tone I sat down with my L2000, my pedal board and a FOH speaker to work on my live tone. I had seen clips of Ed Friedland playing his L2500, running both tone knobs at different settings, so I tried rolling them both totally off. Tone was ok, but a little dark and maybe honky in the mids.
Then I tried with bass and treble rolled up about a 1\4....wow, nice sound. I settled on bass up about a 1\3, treble upper about 1\4. This played with a pick produced a great punchy rock tone with no annoying\overpowering muddy bass and no harsh clacky treble. Tried it today at soundcheck....perfect.
I'm such a dumbass but I now get the L2000 electronics and have found a new love for this bass .
what strings are you guys using that gives such versatility on these L2Ks? I'm going to try flats to get away from the 1 and only dominating tone mine produces. currently the only way I can find any other tone is to 0 everything on my bass in passive and barely crack open the vol. and then work the amp's controls a lot more than usual. my example is exceedingly limited in scope, I'm ready to yoink the whole package and go vintage basic, the bass looks too good to get rid of and I'm sick of not enjoying it.Right there with you.
