Not much for G&L dealers up this way, sounds like a good excuse for a motorcycle ride to me.

Awesome! After I saw your first post about it and it sounded a lot like my L-2500 I've been dying to see it. It did not disappoint!It's a bit premature, as it's still in transit, but I said I'd post pics of my Kiloton 5 order. It was ready in about 2 weeks! Nuts.
I ordered through Rocket Music. Greg knows his G&Ls and answered every question I had, which were many. Sorry Greg! However, for me at least, it was a great experience and I'd definitely go through him again. Thanks to Rocket Music!

It turned out better than I had hoped even. They picked some good grains. Greg pointed out the slight flame in the neck, which is appropriate because the bass looks like MAGMA.
Of course, that picture doesn't take away the requirement to post your own pics when you finally get it.

Happily trending in my own peculiar direction.
That's for sure. I rode down the Blue Ridge a couple of times to the US219. Beautiful country and roads. Made wanna not go back home. I wore out an almost brand new rear tire in just over a week.
My old G&L has a p-bass type split p/u that has always left me 'meh'. For a week now I've been marvelling at the MFD in my new bass. Truly an amazing P/U. She doesn't hit the stage for the first time til Sunday, and I'm looking forward to it.

Who's using flats on a L2500? I've got two and I was thinking about putting flats on one for a different sound. I've used flats before on four string basses with varying degrees of success but have no experience with a flat B string. Any advice or recommendations? I played a friends four string mexi jazz last and the flats on it sounded sweet. I believe they were chromes. It just got me to wondering what one of my l2500's would sound like in passive single coil mode with flats.

I usually keep my L-2500 set to passive/serial/neck and if I want a little more rumble I'll use passive/serial/both. I don't set the preamp switch to active or active w/ treble boost or the pickup selector to bridge-only very often.
That doesn't mean that I don't like it in active mode. I just prefer the passive tone.
I tend to keep my G&L's in passive mode. Mostly because the mfd's are so obscenely hot that I think it helps keep the thing from destroying the front of my amps/pedals. Plus I do think it sounds better.

I have Chromes on my L-2500 and love how it sounds. I've had a couple of people here question why I'd take off the Lo Riders I previously had on it (for the record, Lo Riders are still my favorite overall string) and put a set of flats on it since that bass has such a built in aggressive character that flats would theoretically tame. But, for me at least, I think it makes sense. I think the L-2500 just sounds better with the treble up higher than the bass (I usually set it at treble about 75%-ish and bass at about 50%-ish). So, in my case, the flats help tame some of the harshness that higher treble levels could result in and they also eliminate the string noise from my less-than-perfect technique. So I'm happier keeping the treble up where I like it and the bass sounds the way I like without the drawbacks.
FWIW, the previous owner had TI Jazz Flats on it and not only did I not like the floppy feel, I didn't think those strings sounded that good on it. I then put on a set of rounds but can't remember which right now and they were just OK. Then I put Lo Riders on it and went from "meh" to WOW!". But I still wanted something different and that's when I tried the Chromes.

Anybody know?- Since there's no center detent, are the control boost only?
Actually they are all cut only - so they work in passive mode as well. The MFD pickups were designed with plenty of lows and highs and the controls let you cut them back to the level that works for the sound you are going for.
Your Legacy bass has a traditional P-bass pickup, if you dropped an MFD split-coil like is in the SB-1 & SB-2 into it you'd get MFD goodness in it as well.

I do think it's a great idea and everything is part of a production instument already except for the pickups. Seems like it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to make a 5 version of the split and single coil.
Cool. Actually I'm about due for strings on both my L2500's. I might just stray from my go to EB slinkies and try a set of low riders on one and chromes on the other.
I will try that right away. I don't play the Legacy much because it's just white bread. Not bad, but nothing to write home about.

Oh yeah, I'm in on a five-string version of the SB-2 (or SB-1). I've wanted one for years, but for the bridge pickup I think they should use a version of the El Toro's narrow aperture humbuckers.
As it stands, I'm planning to get an L-2500, but I might prefer the P-bass tone and simplicity of an SB-2 fiver, which I figure would be called the SB-25.
