Hi all! I've owned a few G&Ls in my time, and I've recently acquired a new custom L2000 (pics later) that I'm super happy with, and tonight will be my first practice with the new bass. I've got a concern though:
I happen to have my gig rig home with me after a show over the weekend (Orange TB 1K and Schroeder 212PL). I had the opportunity to turn the amp up to close to rehearsal volume, and the cab started rattling like crazy. I discovered that the grill wasn't on the cab tight enough, but for now have removed the grill to get a better representation of what it will sound like. The speakers are actually kind of farting out, and the only way to get it manageable is to dial back the L2K's bass pot to near zero and switch to single coil mode. That's a massive amount of low end, and I've never had this problem with any other bass.
Any recommendations? I've been looking at a couple of 2x12 cabs, as I've always had some issues with the Schroeder vibrating pretty bad (my fault, after drilling holes for casters). But obviously, I'd like to keep things relatively cheap/free in terms of fixing the issue.

Maybe a high pass filter? Or is it a low pass filter? Whatever it is it rolls off the lows...I think. Other than that I know L2K's are notoriously hot.
Do many L2K players tend to play with the vol pot set <100%? That's my next experiment once I get off this dumb phone conference.
When I owned my L2K I never moved the volume from the 100% position. Your bass might need for you to reset everything on your amp to noon and kind of figure out where it needs to be to get the tone you want. I don't remember the L2K being overly bassy, but I kept mine set about as aggressive as you could get. If I remember correctly I kept it passive, both pickups, and in parallel.
Don't max your volume.
Lower pickup height.
Bass cut can remain at +0 dB (maxed), just make sure volume isn't. MFDs are not your average pickup and can distort the signal when maxed out on your bass.
Good idea regarding the pickup height. They look pretty high right now, plus the action is fairly low.

Wow, nice collection!Here are my G&L's, all empress, Kilo is 7lb 3oz, LB100 is 6Lb 12 OZ, and JB 7Lb 14OZ. Guess you could say I'm a fan
...which, I think weighs about as much combined as my L-2500 does by itself.
I keep mine about 75% as a starting point and then might tweak it a little bit either way depending on how much beef I need in that situation.
FWIW, I also start with my treble at about 75% and bass at about 50%, then tweak from there.
I want back in the club!! I've come to the end of the line with my latest and last fling with Spector. I so do miss my L1500 Custom (see avatar). As soon as I can move my Euro 4, I'll be hot for an L1500, 2000, or Kiloton... Brown bursts, baby!
