G&L Club Part 7

That's kinda where I ended up. I had an LB-100 with a 1, 5/8" 12" neck. I loved the neck, but the bass itself did nothing my SB-1 couldn't do. I traded it in for the SB-2, which I ordered with the same neck. No tone mod.

I agree. However, I don't miss the tone knob on the SB-2 as I've learned to play to its strengths; for example, dialing up the bridge to equal or hotter than the neck to cut some of the boom. For a lot of styles, that's more useful than a treble cut.

SB-1s are killer.

I like mine a lot due to the Jazz neck, and slimmer body style. It feels like a cross between a P and a J a little bit, especially with the brighter MFD pickup.

Of course you can order any neck you want on a G&L that they offer, but I just happened to find a used SB-1 that fit the bill.

I used to be a Jazz bass guy so some of my neck and body preferences were shaped by that.

Yeah, I'm actually just starting to siphon off a little gig money for a new purchase, which will likely be an SB-1. Current plans include a 7.5" radius (though undecided on width - I have a #5 and #6 and really love each for different reasons), clear red over either ash or empress, rosewood board probably with no face dots. Given my gig income timeline, it will probably be a few years, unless I run across a used one sooner that ticks a few boxes (neck radius being the big one).

I have been doing accounting at work all day trying to find $200,000.00 that's missing from the bank account and for the life of me cant figure it out. Its time to think about basses! Especially G&L basses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I have a dilemma, both my passive LB-100 and L-1500 sound amazing and bot are very different sounding from each other so I can't figure which one to play. Nobody knows...................

I know that this is old territory, but I've been unable to find what I'm looking for in the club archive, or anywhere else. I have an SB2 with no tone control. I'd like to change out the "J" volume pot for a stacked pot to provide a passive tone control to affect the tone of both pickups. Does anyone have a schematic that is specific to the SB2 that shows how this could done?

Across the outer two terminals on each of the stacked pots, although I think this gives an equivalent resistance of 333 kohm. If you can get stacked 250 kohm pots you don’t need the resistors. This is really just the circuit for a jazz bass, but with stacked volume pots.

This is the part I used: "NOLL 250k Volume/Volume Potentiometer Linear Taper Stacked BBG 4/6mm Solid Shaft" from BestBassGear. I prefer the linear taper for blending volumes. Used a 250k pot for the tone.

They go across the outer lugs of the stacked 500KA pots to approximate 250KA. Effective resistance of the pot and two 1M resistors is about 250K. The curve will be near audio taper but not quite because of the fixed resistors. Still, close enough for rock & roll. You can leave the resistors out and just use the 500KA pots, but the bass will sound a bit brighter than normal.
