a bit unrelated--do G&L basses ever go on sale or featured in deals (i.e. musicianfriend's SDotD)? i play guitar but interested in picking up a bass after playing one my oldest son brought home from school to practice on. it was pretty fun. just seeing if i can hold out to possibly get a better price on a JB-2 tribute than whatever the current coupon discount is available at guitar center. thanks!
I have seen JB-2 Tributes on discount before. Not sure how the deal compares to the GC 15% off coupon, but shops have done Tributes on discounts and I think MF SDOTD was one of them.
Is that essentially the same as the S1 switch option you can do to Jazz basses? I had a Peavey Foundation V with Super Ferrites and we did that mod. Man that thing killed!
The Tribute guitars show up regularly on Musician's Friend SDOTD (got an ASAT classic and a Legacy that way) and I got my Tribute JB-2 on one of their deep discount days. Not a big selection and you just have to wait for it.

The day G&L start offering RMC on their various bass models is the day I order a second, fully kitted (ss frets, etc) SB-1.
Unfortunately, doesn't seem particularly, even more so given the recent trend to 'needlessly' feature pickguards (as in in various Warwick signature models, the new David Ellefson Jackson, and so on)

Very curious how this shortscale incarnation of L-1000 will sound. On another note, it's not really obvious at this angle, but the thing may not feel like a shortscale reach-wise because the bridge is located pretty far towards the neck, likely to compensate for the absence of the upper horn.
Only 19 frets and, I guess, a tone control. Don't get what you say about compensating for the absence of the upper horn, unless you mean extra wood down at the bottom to combat neck dive. Given where the top strap lug is, I'm guessing it's going to dive a bit. Can't wait for a review on this one.
