My first G&L is an L1505. Its a great bass IMO. I seem to read somewhere that some don't care for its tone.
it took me awhile to get adapted to the controls & learn how to get good tone, but now that I've learned how it works- that bass is awesome!
Yeah I had a L-1500 before also and I could see where the tone could be love/hate. I like the aggressiveness.
That's cool as hell. They're calling it "Turquoise", but I bet it's Viking Blue.
I don't own a L150x, but right now my favourite punchy tone is produce from my L2000 - bridge pickup, passive, series, volume and treble dialled all the way, bass at about 70% (nickel roundwound strings). You would think this would produce a brash, harsh tone but in truth it is a bright, punchy clear tone with just the right amount of high mid poke to cut through but not be harsh. Aggressive - yep but not overly so, a very musical tone for rock and pop.
Still in love with my L2000s.
The one thing I can't seem to do is alter polepiece heights. I've tried many times to coax some movement with the correct Allen wrench but they won't budge - it just feels like I'll end up stripping out the centre.
Yeah I've never had a L-2000, but I'll have one on Friday! Should have a few more tone variations on tap than the single pickup L variants. I think the MFD pickups in general produce a unique sound that I really like.
I don't think so. Just had a Viking Blue Lynx here and once had a Viking L5000. Not even close.

Speaking of the Viking Blue Lynx I just had here- It's a flood bass (instrument version of a flood car) good for parts only. The disingenuous seller will likely put it back up on eBay. I returned it for a full refund. Too many issues to salvage it. The neck was ski jump toast even before it went underwater. The bass and case reek of mold; all the screw threads are rusted. The case had dried sand stuck to the lining. Water seeped under the lacquer checking and some paint is coming off in strips. If he decides to be honest about condition and lists it for parts the electronics do work but you'll need to be good at rust removal. Serial #B015962.

That L-1505 used to be mine. I traded it a few years ago here for my Interceptor. It's a really really good one! I've thought about it lately as I'm starting to play 5s again. Enjoy it!
yeah - I strung mine up with DR Legends flats to tame the bright edge; and now that I've learned to use its controls I can get a wide variety of tones. Growling meaty grind in parallel, more bite in series; rolling off the volume & running in passive mode allows more acoustic warmth, and for an old school thump I'll palm mute but play up near the base of the neck.
amazingly versatile for a single pickup humbucker!
I'd make a clip & post to soundcloud but most all my gear is still packed from the move a few months ago.

I've been a huge G&L fan for a while now and finally decided to post some pics of mine. Here's my cherry burst 2016 L-1500, strung with LaBella 760FLs.
My new pride and joy, '81 L-2000E, slot-pole pickups, mahogany body. Plays like butter and sounds like thunder.
Congrats - I just recently acquired a Hog L2k of similar vintage myself ! I'm really enjoying it, has allot of charisma to it, and well...you know about the tone. Its a beast !
