Is this the G&L Club or the G&L Bashing Club? Sorry to hear your stories but seems like a topic for a different thread. Maybe go start one of your own and bash away at Mr. Gagnon, BBE, other non G&L related stuff or whatever you want there and let us appreciate what we enjoy here?

I think it's important to voice criticism in a forum where G&L probably has at least a few eyes. These are documented Quality Control issues. And anyone willing to spend $2000+ on a bass deserves to have all the information they can get. My dealer had sharp enough eyes to notice that the neck installed on my bass was not the 1/4 sawn neck I had paid for. Will someone else be lucky enough? It's good information and it belongs here.

Thanks for your opinion your highness. Everything that you just claimed was non G&L related, is exactly G&L related, so when you say "maybe go somewhere else", I say; it's America, I'm not breaking forum rules, so maybe not. Now you have my opinion to go with your own.

BTW... Warning others, especially strangers, about cautious situations and poor experiences, is widely accepted as an honorable act... And yeah, I do love G&L's so much that I did build a very popular website to honor them. Have you?

Anybody remember when Bill Schultz and another fellow from Yamaha were brought in to get Fender back on its feet after the CBS fiasco? Well, Yamaha's still really got it going on re: quality at all levels in the catalog—and with customer service. I wonder if they could spare some folks?

I don't, but I agree that Yamaha is typically on point! Along with Schecter and Ibanez. All can be a real hassle to contact if you have issues, but you really never do, IME. G&L would need to be receptive. In any event, it's clear that customer service is now a taboo topic, so until the Allies are victorious, I won't speak on such issues anymore.

BTW... Everyone, I hadn't been in here in quite some time and I was notified that my buddy @jmlee had an issue, so I merely stopped in to say hello and share in his experience with my own relevant experience. I sincerely had no intention of starting waves, so I apologize for any inconvenience.

Yes it's still very active. I'm sorry but as a professional courtesy, I don't speak about it on Talkbass. You can easily find it with a Google search though. Thanks for understanding.

To recap:

1. G&Ls are awesome, but sometimes suffer from a bit of oversight with their QC and order fulfillment. There is room for improvement.
   
2. Army can be a bit animated in his responses, but has a valid gripe and also has a concern for others who have similar gripes. But ultimately Army is a fanboi and loves sparkly things.
   
3. Some people want to talk about what they love, some people want to express their concerns or disappointments. Everybody has their own experiences and opinions.
   
4. This thread needs more pictures.

I appreciate the praise and critiques both in this thread! I also appreciate how active this TB club is here compared to others I frequent. It was experience posted here that made me decide not to order a new G&L, but I am extremely happy with my used one!

I think that @TDR1138 has it quite right with the above four theses nailed to the Fullerton church door. We're a community here on TB, and this little sub-community dedicated to G&L does what all communities do: we share and celebrate when things are great, we gripe and plot revolution when things are not great and could be changed, and we grieve and console each other when things are not great and seem immune to change. Thus it has been, thus it shall be—and there's nothing at all wrong with that. In fact it's kind of great. If G&L are listening then all the better; they'll find much more love than dismay here.

Now...in keeping with Thesis #4, a gratuitous image of a G&L bass on a stand, and two drummers, one of whom could use some work on posture...

I understand your position but @armyadarkness wrote dozen of posts about how good and sparkly G&L basses are. I thought he was a G&L fanboy and I can understand why he is pissed.

Thank you my friend... You're darn tootin that I'm a big G&L fanboy, and I certainly put my money where my mouth is. Who would ever question my loyalty and commitment to the brand?

Actually, they do. I've been that stranger on a number of times and it has saved my any number of dollars. Why did I take a chance in a G&L custom build? Because I love their instruments...when they get it right. I had lengthy discussions with my dealer expressing the concerns I have read here, Army's website, and the couple other forums dedicated to G&L. In the end, I based my decision on the trust I have in my local dealer, not any trust I have in G&L. And it's because of threads like this and websites like Army's that provide me with accurate information regarding others' experiences when purchasing a custom build from G&L.

So, again, the information belongs here, in extensive G&L discussion threads, where it will show up on page one of Google searches. It doesn't belong in some random thread that will show up on page 1,243,658 of a Google search.

If it will make you happy, this will be my third G&L. I have an L-2500 Tribute and a 1996 Fullerton L-5500 fretless with the rare Bowling Ball finish. Both are excellent instruments and I play them regularly. Does that make you happy? I don't care. The good, the bad, and the ugly all belong here.

And... Kudos to you for designing and ordering your G&L, AFTER hearing all of our QC issues, AND during a pandemic.

Straight black is never outta style! My primary player is completely blacked out... I only use sparkles so that I can blind the crowd when they boo me off the stage.
