Thanks for the clarification. I assumed there were would be an upcharge, but wasn't counting on that much of one!

If you'd asked me a few weeks ago how crazy they would be willing to get with electronics in the Custom Shop, I'd have said "not very". However, in the past two weeks I've had someone ask if they could do a JB with the 70's bridge pickup location. G&L said yes, and it's a small upcharge. Then someone else asked if they'd make a JB with L-2000 pickups in the L-2000 locations but wired like a JB (so passive vol/vol/tone). I was gobsmacked when G&L also agreed to do that, and for the same small upcharge.

It probably still needs to be handled on a case by case basis, but I've learned that it doesn't hurt to ask!

If they ever get around to custom windings, the query I sent you a few weeks back still stands!

Interesting! I already kill strings extremely fast by nature. Killing strings even faster is not something my wallet would like :D

Stainless steel frets can feel a little more slick than nickel. Not so important for bass, but guitar players that bend a lot may prefer SS.

The major selling point of SS for me would be the added durability of the frets themselves. SS should resist wear longer than nickel, so more time before you need a refret. That would only be an advantage if you play enough and hang onto a bass long enough to ever require a refret.

Manufacturers usually charge more for SS frets because the material is harder on the manufacturer's tools. Fret files, Plek machines, etc., all wear more quickly when working on SS.

This is really interesting. I asked G&L a few years ago (not long after the JB was released) if they would consider doing a JB 5 with L2500 pickups and preamp....they politely said no.
Maybe this might be a possibility now?

Hmmm. I know the pickups part of it would be OK through the Custom Shop now with a small upcharge, but I'm not sure about the preamp. Would the L2K preamp and battery fit in the cavity under the chrome control plate? If not, maybe they could route some space for it under the pickguard or from the rear?

I'd have to ask them for sure. I don't want to drown my G&L guy in questions, so just hit me up about this if/when you're serious about pursuing it.

I had to shield my MJ-4 to get it quiet. Did the control cavity and pickup cavities. Pretty easy to do. Did need to run wires from the pup cavities to the control cavity and solder it at each end. Dead quiet now. For the record, it had zero shielding.

Also remember the bridge pup is single cool on the SB-2 so it's not noise cancelling.

Hello everyone. Picked up my first G&L Bass this month. Have been looking for about a year now for a L-1500 in great condition, with a rosewood fretboard, and finally found it. I know it's not one of the more popular G&L's (maybe even the least) but it's the one I've been drawn to for quite a while and honestly...I couldn't be happier. I personally love the looks of it and absolutely LUV the various tones I can get from it. The neck is one of the most comfortable I've ever played. And finally I didn't realize how light it was going to be so that's just icing on the cake. Anyway...Thanks for taking a look and I was wondering if I could maybe join the club? Thanks!

Dang, that's so sharp looking. Their clear blue is such a good color.
