Interesting how yellow the guard looks against the off-white pickup, and how yellow the pickup looks against the white guard.

My first G & L was a Tribute JB-2 in sunburnt with the maple neck. I foolishly sold it. I have since tried. the Tribute SB-2 and Kiloton.
The JB-2 resonated so much more than the latter 2I tried. It literally came to life when played. Do most G & L basses resonate like the JB-2 did, or did I just let a rare one slip through my fingers? Thank you in advance for any insight.

My three G&Ls (USA L2500 Fretless, '94 LB-100, '87 SB-1) resonate really well plugged and unplugged.
My USA G&Ls all resonate nicely.
I did briefly have a Tribute M2500 that had really dead B and E strings. Like seriously flabby. Even after changing strings. That one went back.

Thanks. Unfortunately I have to resort to trying and buying online. I attributed the resonance to the bridge design, so I figured they all felt that way. The Kiloton and SB-2 just didn't reverberate nearly as much as the JB-2.
My apologies. Yes, they all have the same bridge design. I attributed the resonance of the JB-2 in part to the bridge. I sort of expected the other two models to resonate the same way since they have the same bridge. They did not. Hope that makes sense.

Just got this Tribute JB today, the factory plastic film is still on the PUs and pickguard.
(that's just the film hanging on the PG)
It's a 2019, from the S/N:
But there's an upside-down "2" stamped right in the middle of the serial number:
This tag is attached, but it could be for a reclining sofa for all I know:

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the "2" means? Does the hangtag indicate that it failed Finish inspection? Is this a factory second?
I can't see a whole lot wrong with the finish. There's some minor marring near the bottom of the bridge pickup, but it's no big deal and might even buff out.
I really can't see anything wrong with it yet, but I did just get it today.

Did all the basses have the saddle lock bridge locked down? On my first Kiloton, the bridge was missing the little plastic lock and the bridge was not locked. G&L sent me the missing part and after installing it I noticed a difference.
Were the body woods the same? Maybe that accounts for the difference? Strings identical?
I just ordered white Pearl pick guard from Chandler's,for my LB100. Thought white Pearl,would make the Cherry Burst jump out at you?
So, a question for the G&L experts.
I recently got an L1000 from a tb-er that came from the factory with an alnico humbucker.
On its own, it's a really nice, warm, clear-sounding pickup. In 2 rehearsals with a gtr-bass-drums pop rock trio, I've found the sound to be a bit anonymous. It tends to sort of fit in a bit too well, which has always been my "issue" with Precision basses. I really like the bass overall, and am wondering if switching out the alnico pickup with an MFD would make much difference. I tend to think the p-bass pickup position has a lot to do with the sound, but I have never had a MFD pickup on hand for comparison.
I would think the standard electronics would work with the mfd. (?)
Appreciate Any thoughts y'all may have about this.
I should also mention I normally play Rickenbackers, which of course have quite a distinctive sound,either in single coil or humbucker versions. My GL JB2 also has a sound that i love because it stands apart in the mix.

I can't say that I'd ever define my L-1000 as "anonymous." I think it's got an authoritative voice, especially in the single coil and OMG modes. Very full in the low and growly mids and can be snappy on the top end. Between the switching and PTB circuit, it really can find its own voice in a mix, IMO.
But I like P basses, often struggle with J basses and have never played an Alnico L-1000, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask...

The only L1000s I have played are with the MFD, and they are very distinctive in their sound. I would say switch it out if the alnico isn't doing it for you. You can also listen to bass demo vids for the L1000 they would all most likely have the MFSD pickup. The alnico is very rare.
