G&L Club Part 7

Hello ladies and gents!

I'm thinking of ordering a new G&L. Among the options would be white body binding and white neck binding on a dark board. I have not seen this too often, although I have one pic.

However, I have gathered from seeing a few different pics that the white binding is not exactly the same on body and the neck. The white on the body binding seems almost cream while the white on the neck seems pretty white.

Has anyone here ever ordered this or seen it in person? Can you confirm or not? I know I'm a little OCD, but it may bother me if those two bindings clash or don't go well together. I've included a rare pic that I have found of a bass that has both neck and body binding.

Here are some pics of some custom ASATs back in 1999/ 2000 I ordered. I don't have a bound neck to compare, sorry. While mine seemed white, I've seen some that looked cream like you describe.

Yeah, that's weird...G&L states that there is only two kinds of body binding: natural and white. But I have seen some that really look creamy...

I really like the white. And I think it would look good with a white bound neck. But the cream? Hm, not so sure...

On the bass options page, neck binding is available in whites and body binding is available in both white and natural:

Mellower and smoother sounding, with a little less output. Pretty typical ceramic vs alnico tonal difference, think MM Sterling in parallel vs MM Stingray, if you know how those basses sound. Ceramic usually has a bit more grit and bite than alnico to my ears.
I like the tone better than MM Sabre pickups, which are the same size coil and pole diameter.

Yeah man. With the PTB tone circuit, to be able to tame that low end when needed.

Yes I believe the pickup on a Kiloton is pushed a little further toward the center.

I have both single pickup & dual pickup G&L’s & they both get the job done amazingly well.

Generally I find in band situations where the mix is sub-par at best & I’ll adjust as needed to stay out of the thick zone of that.

I like this idea. Would be pretty easy to modify a Kiloton like this, I've added the MFD to other basses before. I think it might be kind of cool to put the "neck" pickup directly in front of the bridge pickup with similar electronics to the L-2000.

Also, in that mock up, the neck pickup is similarly much closer to the neck than on an L-2000. The Kiloton pickup plus a neck pickup in the L-2000 position would be almost touching.

I would love to hear a good A/B comparison between a Kiloton on its series setting and a L-2000 set to series/passive with both pickups on.

The thing I like the most about this (and something I would like to see G&L try) is a coil tap switch for each MFD pickup. That setup made the Fender Roscoe Beck basses insanely flexible. I would love to see the same thing tried on MFDs.

I was told yesterday that my SB-1 is on the move, so that was 10½ weeks from the factory acknowledging the specs of my order. Which given the ongoing global palaver is better than I hoped. A combination of vaguely affordable international shipping and the Christmas-New Year break here, though, means I probably wont be getting it in my trembling hands until the start of January.
