Wow that sure is a difference. How is something like this not caught and or corrected?
I wasn’t going to make a fuss but this seems to be a common issue and if it’s so common, it should be fixed immediately! Maybe I will send an email after I get my replacement.
I'd say G&L is well aware of the issue. Every bass they send me has the tuner at the end of the headstock detuned so that it's not protruding past the end of the headstock. I'm sure, for them, it comes down to only having to stock one size of bass case vs. stocking/managing numerous model-specific choices.
When does the headache of stocking more than one case become attractive in the face of customer complaints about the one-size-fits-all case that doesn't really work that great with all models? Deep thoughts.
I'm glad it's not my job to make tough choices like that.

Well if G&L is going to go ahead with this business plan, my opinion is that they should at least inform new owners of the situation. Then new owners can act with care about this.
But to know about this and say nothing to new owners...it just seems like an odd way to deal with this. And it is cringeworthy to think of all these new owners going through this all over the country, when it could be avoided.
I feel your pain. One of the first things I noticed upon receipt of my SB-2T, back in late '19. Flimsy, to say the least. Not sure why G&G is cutting corners these days ($$$), but I ordered a Fender branded G&G back in '06 for my Highway One Jazz, and that case is like Fort Knox.
Aaaannnndddd, yes... I mentioned it to G&L, but I'm not sure if they were paying attention to a first time buyer, like myself. In the immortal words of Hank Kimball, 'As a matter of fact, I'm not sure they're paying attention to anyone'.
Does anyone know when G&L moved the LB-100 pickup slightly closer to the neck. It is my understanding from looking around TB that it was “mid-2016?”
I’ve purchased an LB-100 that was completed on June 27, 2016 and was wondering if it was pre- or post- pickup shift.
Pickguard Planet notes that their LB-100 pickguards fit basses manufactured after 2013?

I could be wrong on this, but I think 2013 is when G&L switched from outsourcing pickguard production to doing it in-house. Not sure about when they changed the pickup location but I’ve heard about it before.

I'm going to pull the cases out for my L2000 and Matador tomorrow. I'm curious to check it. Maybe this body shape is not affected like the JB mentioned?
Thanks very much for the info. I had assumed a previous owner of my JB-5 had placed it in the wrong G&L case, but apparently not. I understand the efficiency of using one case, but then shouldn't they go with a larger case so all basses fit, instead of a smaller case that damages the tuners on some? If the case is a little too big, it's easy enough to add some padding, but it's not so easy to expand a case that's too small.
I love G&L's instruments, but jeez, this is ridiculous.
I'm not sure how, or when, Matt's tuner got twanged. I'm not sure what type of deal G&L has with G&G. Totally understand the economics behind stocking a 'one size fits most' case. If it's a quality case, made with decent materials, it doesn't have to fit like a glove.
From a business standpoint, I doubt I'm gonna let it slide that Company B's case, which is included in the price of Company A's instrument, might affect sales of the latter, if the former is providing an inferior product.
I wonder if this was addressed in the contract between the two?

I'm not sure of the exact date details, but if it were me I'd measure the distance between the bridge and the pickup and compare that with data from some helpful folks who clearly have the earlier or the later design?
I personally own two LB-100's, though only my 2018 fretless one is here with me at the store right now. So that one has the current pickup placement, and the bridge side of the D/G pickup cover is 3 3/4" from the neck-most edge of the bridge. If you measure something different, you probably have the earlier placement.
