You're right, I was assuming no one liked what I like. Maybe it relates to our body chemistry somehow?

Of course it's different strokes/finishes...all a matter of personal preferences. Until my recent basses I had always had glossy necks whether on guitars or basses. Wasn't until some recent purchases that I found the joys of satin/matte finishes. But of course there's no right or wrong here...just what you like and enjoy playing.
This is true. But the Custom Shop can get pricey...

Quick question, does anyone know if the CLF basses are pleked? I heard G&L aren't offering plek anymore.
well now that you say that i just checked my custom shop L-1005 i got in january, 2021 and it has not been pleked??? any sales reps on here. my USA Fullerton KILOTON 5 has, 2017 on build sheet, lb-100 picked up in jan 2021, has 8/20 on built sheet ,, no plek info?? i never noticed, i will be asking my dealer! the basses are still killer, as soon as a sell the kiloton 5, im gonna order 2 more 4 strings.

PLEK information was removed from the specification sheets. Fullerton Deluxe Models are not PLEK'd. Custom Shop models are PLEK'd (The G&L Discussion Page - View topic - 1/16/2020-present Custom Shop Specifications & Options). I have not found specific info on CLF Research models, but based on the Espada listing PLEK for specs (The G&L Discussion Page - View topic - 1/15/2020-present G&L Fullerton Deluxe/CLF™ Research Series) I assume (possibly incorrectly) that all CLF Research models are PLEK'd.

I bought a used L-2000 Tribute that a previous owner had "upgraded" to USA spec - Ultralite tuners, a USA decal, and sanded "made in wherever" (Korea I think) off the back of the headstock. He'd had to drill extra holes because the Ultralites have a different footprint.
I played it like that for a while then switched to L-2500 and swapped the Ultralites for generic Chinese tuners as I wanted the Ultralites for a USA G&L neck.
Just before Covid struck I started gigging with it again and didn't notice any real difference (but it had been about 5 years since I'd last played it all night).
The 2 I currently own we're pleked and play great and sound amazing but they are not without there problems.
My USA jazz was sent back for warranty repair after I had it for less than a month. I felt the output was very low. G&L replaced both pickups. They covered all shipping too.
my SB1 is currently at .010 neck relief. Which is great except that my truss rod is as tight is it can go. If I need to tighten it anymore I am in trouble. However G&L already knows about this and said they would replace the neck.
I had a USA LB100 that had the same truss rod issue. I exchange it with Sweetwater. The replacement was great until the day I peeled the film off the pickguard. After I peeled it my tone knob no longer worked. Probably a broken solider point but not wanting to deal with it and that being the 4 for 4 of bad luck basses I returned it to Sweetwater for a refund.
The sad thing is all of these basses sound incredible but I didn't play $1500+ for a problem. So the QC aspect is very annoying. It's worse with fender.
my Yamaha and stingrays are fantastic. I was going to sell one of my stingrays but I just can't part with a bass that is so well made when I have had so many other that had issues. Still, I love my G&Ls

The imports are IMO/IME very very good for what they are. I spent $100 on an import Fallout guitar that I got on sale and it's a lifetime instrument.
Has anyone installed mfd split coils or lb100 split coils into a fender p bass? I have a fender American Original 50s pbass with their our vintage 58 pickups. Compared to the sb1 and lb100 pickups the 58s are just not good. They are ok, but I find myself not wanting to play the fender cause it's sound it's just very bland.
the mfd has great low end and this mid range growl to it. Much like what I remember from the few weeks I had the lb100.

I have. Its great. Exactly how you would think.
I have a MFD split coil in a custom bass (MFD dual coil in the bridge position). It can go from vintage thump to "angry bear." An amazing pickup.
they sell them on website store, i would try an SB-1 Pick Up and set the pole pieces for your bass
I love it. The sound in my head. Works for pretty much everything I do. I have had live sound engineers and a recording engineer ask how to get my tone. I wish it existed in 5 or 6 string configurations.
