where did you order the pickguards?

The mirror one came from Quick Guards.
It wasn't a perfect fit, but...
The abalone one is copied from the Reverend Thundergun pickguard.

I'm seriously considering buying an L-1000.

Could any owners tell me about the gloss finish on the neck? Has it been an issue for anyone? My current Fender P has a vintage gloss type finish and it's one of the reasons I want to move it on.

If you’re talking about the current CLF L-1000 then no, you won’t have an issue. It feels nothing like Fender’s gloss necks. My CLF L-2500 is smooth and slinky, never sticky in any weather. An absolute joy to play—so much so that I ordered my Kiloton 5 with a gloss neck.

Bummer about potential fret sprout issue with ebony, i wasn't aware of that until now.

I've owned 2 (and still own 1) basses with ebony boards and have never experienced a fret sprout issue. They were/are both Carvins.

My new G&L L2500 tribute is at my favorite luthier getting a much needed setup. While I got a good deal on it and am happy with the sellers shipping and correspondence, their complete lack of any attempt at a setup left me cold. I got it off Reverb as "B" stock for a barely visible finish blemish, but that doesn't mean it should have shipped in the condition it was in. I'm pretty good at basic setup and tweaks but I just couldn't get it zeroed in. Should have it back in a couple of weeks...

This is brighter,stage light, sunlight, stands out and goes with everything. USA Silver Flake (Marty Bell) White bound ebony markerless board.
K-Mod. Glows green under Blacklight. No fret sprout. I live in a dry area of California. Plays and sounds as good as my 98 Warwick Dolphin .
Plays excellent is 9.5 lbs. Stable comfortable neck. Sounds like nothing else. Chicks Dig it.

In the interest of full disclosure, I stole your white bound ebony markerless fretboard scheme for my recent green metal flake kiloton 5 build. I’ve seen yours pictured here so much over the years we’ll just call it subliminal advertising, k?

I bought it here on TB. Once I saw it I was stunned and had to have it.
I fell in love with markerless boards on my warwicks

Will do! After going back and forth, I think I will go with the Alpine White body with matching headstock, Ebony fretboard with white binding, and get a white 3 ply pg, and pick up a black 3 ply pg as well, to change it up from time to time.

I already have a P bass in Mystic blue which looks similar to LPB. So why not try something different. And while the Himalayan blue looks great, it might be tougher color to sell when the time comes.

I think the white and black scheme has a clean modern feel to it and could look really great. If I went with the maple neck I would definitely go with black blocks as you suggested. But I think the Ebony will be a great visual contrast. I just found out my Fender Elite JB has had an Ebony fretboard all along. (I always thought it was Rosewood.) And I haven't had any issues with it.

I've certainly been enjoying my Alpine white and Ebony combo!!

Its not for everyone thats for sure and sadly G&L resale is not what it should be.

It may take longer to sell with the Flake (any color) but will sell for more.
I've resisted selling, but have had cold offers of 1500, and Sparkle is a 2012.
If the flake bass were posted for sale here (TB) I think it would fetch a pretty fair price, and move quickly.
Personally, I would love to have a Tangerine Flake.

Agreed about the value of flake. The average guy on the street is probably looking for black, white, or red.
The G&L aficionado is looking for something special and is willing to pay a bit more for something rare.
Honestly, most of the G&L's I've tried to buy on Reverb were shot down on weight not finish.
But I have a 8.5 lb. max weight rule (because you can these days!).

Got my first G&L.

Came today, straight out of Japan. L2000 Tribute (MIJ), 90s (still the old body shape that I prefer).
This thing is crazy packed with tones. I wanted an all natural look, I love it.
It's under 9 lbs too, so heck yea. Massive, massive mojo. I guess I completed my Leo trifecta now.
