i prefer matching, but that black really accents the white very well. Looks great to me.
What do you think?
I like the white and black contrast. If I don't get silver flake I'm going black and white combo of white body and ebony fretboard to get the contrast.
Maybe if it were arctic white, but in that nice blonde finish not so much...and it’s just black on the front face, well...not really.

I dig it! It's giving me 80s Jazz Bass Special vibes. I like the contrast. I tend to like black headstocks though.

Bought the Mad Hatter PJ kit for my SB-2 with single volume, blend and tone knobs. Tore out the G&L harness, loaded the new pots on the new pickguard (G&L was quick about shipping that btw) and voila! The config of V - B - T does not fit as the rear tone pot is much larger than the stock one and hits the input jack. Oh no.
So now I think the only way it will fit is if I use V - T - B as the blend is very shallow and will probably fit. Seems like a strange config to me but I'm sure I could get used to it. Or, I pull out the soldering iron and put it all back the way Leo intended it. Dang. I don't think I've played/seen a bass with the blend at the bottom.
Any thoughts?
** EDIT: Tried putting the blend pot at the bottom and while it's shallow enough...it's too wide as the routing narrows considerably down there. Damn again. I guess it's going back.

Mad Hatter uses full size pots, but a smaller diameter blend , odd.

Pics are showing the empty cavity, then the depth of the new pots (from the left blend, then vol/tone) compared to the original. The third pic shows that the new blend pot is wider than the tone pot that normally would be in the lowest position.
You may want to look in to a Best Bass Gear passive harness. They use Noble pots which are smaller than CTS. I recently had a similar issue with a narrow cavity. Only way I could get the tone pot to fit.
FWIW, this is my 3rd or 4th passive harness I have ordered from BBG for different basses over the years. Big fan of them.
Did you notice any improvement in sound? Or was it just a functionality change? I'm looking to switch to a volume - blend - tone primarily but I was going to try the 500k setting on the Mad Hatter pots.
It was primarily a function change. Going from V/V/T to V/B/T. I generally run my basses with all knobs at 10, so for me, no tonal difference.
I had a bass with a similar problem of contact between the last pot and the tip contact for the input jack. I just put a strip of insulating tape over the offending part of the input jack or maybe the pot (the tip connector could still move enough to function) and it's been just fine ever since. [N.B. I'm not a purist, physicist rather than engineer, and am not mortally offended by the presence of electrical tape in a control cavity.]
Interesting. The SB-2 is one bass where the sweet spot is with the bridge pickup backed off to 70-80% and IMHO all up is not a great place to be tonally.
