If it is heavy it is probably Northern Hard Ash. My '86 L2000 is and looks very similar as far as grain pattern. Northern Ash is much heavier than Swamp Ash. My L2000 is too heavy for me to play for a whole 3 hour gig.
Here's my G&L L-1500. Ash body, birdseye maple board, clear orange finish.
That's my first G&L and I'm already impressed by its comfy neck and serious growl...
