G&L Fallout Bass

Very cool! Any clips coming sir?
Yeah, I just took it on the Outlaw Country Cruise 5 and played the Fallout for almost the entire third show. And eventually I’ll do a little personal thing with it. I LOVE this bass! It’s loud and proud, plays beautifully, looks cool (pink looks great onstage), and it’s fat!

Here’s a question.... I’m sitting on a flight now, traveling home with the Fallout bass, and wish I had a pro quality gig bag that fits it. Some of the newer planes have smaller overhead bins, and I’d like to take advantage of the shorter length for that. Anyone know if there’s a dedicated short scale gig bag that’s travel-worthy? Not that Fender Urban bag, I mean like Mono, or Reunion Blues.... will it fit in an oversized guitar bag? Also want a road case... not a G&G type case.

A mono guitar sleeve should fit a short scale bass just fine - it works for my medium scale. Great gig bag!

I'm also interested in what might fit the Fallout for flights. I wanted to go on the Outlaw Cruise but it was sold out! Sounds like it was fun! I drive commercial vehicles and have SiriusXM Channel 60 on all the time!

Here lies the problem.

I’ve been looking for a G&L L2500 for a month.

No dealer has any. Heck the only thing they seem to have are Kilotons.

G&L are no help. And the only place that has any is eBay.

Why can’t they get stock out?
Why can’t Sweetwater carry them?
Why does Guitar center have like zero new USA models?

Im gonna go buy a new Fender American Pro this weekend. Simply because I can’t find a USA L-2500 in blue burst anywhere.

This would probably better fit in the G&L club thread... Anyway, G&L's model is more built to order. Their mainstay is the option order line, and that's where you'll find the L2500. So I'd suggest getting a hold of a dealer like @RocketMusic and ordering your L2500 exactly how you want it. And you're not gonna get anything like it from a Fender. That's for the USA built ones, the Tributes, they come in from overseas so ups and downs on stock are possible.

I assume you are not looking for a Tribute series. There are 2 blue burst tribute L2500's on Reverb right now. While it's not blue burst, if you would go ahead and purchase the Custom Shop version in Blue Fade Flame at Drumcity, I would personally appreciate it. That way I can stop obsessing over it.

Just got mine today - here are a few quick photos - I'll try to check back and give a proper review when I can get away from work (from home, thank goodness) and plug it in! I did have to order it special from a dealer in Denver and waited a couple months, but no biggie. Yeah, it's overpriced, but if I play it more than the bass I'm selling to fund this one, it's worth it to me.

How would the Fallout compare with, say the new soon-to-be-released Sire U5 30" scale bass?

I like G&L gear. I have an 80's L2000. I am sure this is a quality instrument. However it's $1500 USD. That's $50 per scale inch! ( :) )

I also like Sire basses. Excellent for the money. I have a couple of them.

Sire has just put out (well, shipping starting in April) a short scale bass, the U5. It's 1/3 the price of the Fallout. I wonder how these two instruments would compare?

The U5 is 2 pickup model which is more along the lines of what I am used to, for tweaking sound.

I've never been a HUGE fan of the Fender Mustang bass; the Fallout is pretty clearly modeled on the classic Mustang. Tempted to try a U5 but even at $500 I am holding on to my cash right now, for sure. No way I'd consider a Fallout in these times, as great as I am sure it is. Here's a photo of the Sire U5. Not sure any of them have been shipped so unless someone here played one at NAMM, an assessment and comparison of the Fallout and U5 is probably hard to get.

If it weren't for that dang ol' stripe, I'd probably eventually buy one of these to satisfy my uncharacteristic hankerin' for a short-scale instead of the new Music Man short scale Stingray. I may anyway, but I sure do wish there was an unstriped option. I'd have it in like a metalflake white with rosewood and tortoise if it could be had that way.

Edit: 1 5/8" nut (seems odd for a shortie). G.A.S. averted!

Since I'm bored at home on lockdown, I decided to put the Fallout Bass in various cases I have piled up in the corner. The ones specifically designed for P & J basses don't seem to work, but the SKB "Rectangular Bass Soft Case" Model: 1SKB-SC44 seems to work fine. The bass doesn't sit entirely tight inside, but it's not too bad and certainly better than having it knocked around the trunk in the gig bag that came with it.

Fallout Bass green.jpg

Fret Nation had a sale through Reverb this weekend on the short scale that's had my eye on for several months. My first bass was a pre Ernie Ball Stingray and my latest bass is a JMJ sig Mustang, so this hit the sweet spot with style. My first G&L, the build is superb and it came with a set of Chromes that I immediately restrung it with. Big sound and variety of tones, super smooth neck, love this shade of green. Only wish I wasn't sheltering in place to get a full band sound test but I'm really enjoying playing it through my practice amp.

Did you solve your gig bag problem? I’ve a mono sleeve that works with my Jerry jones basses but not my SG standard bass. I’ve found this on the Access bags site. Looks awesome but spendy. The link is miss labeled. It goes to a short scale electric bass bag.

Acoustic Bass Guitar Gig Bag by Harvest Fine Leather at ACCESS

if we keep buying short scale basses Access and mono will eventually break down and make a quality affordable bag for us. Harass them through email. The more requests they get, the more they’ll understand that there’s a market for it I think.

quoting for emphasis... what he said^ custom order that L2500. Come to think of it, I've only seen the L2000 stock a store, I've never seen an L2500 in stock anywhere.

Im seriously considering picking up that green one from andertons. I'm in the market for a short scale and like a wider nut like a p bass. I really like the wiring options that g&l developed for both this bass as the L1000. Is there any reason not to buy this bass other than it's a little expensive (although here it's now cheaper than a American pro series bass)

I've got the green one, I absolutely love it. You can get just about any kinda sound you want. It's becoming my favorite bass, over my Legacy (now called LB100) or even my '72 Jazz. Plus they look dope as fuuuuuuuuh....
