I've had some interest recently in an early G&L model that is long out of production: the G&L L-1000! This is a passive L-Series bass with a single pickup that is closer to the neck than the current single pickup model ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]). It's also passive with volume and separate treble & bass cut controls plus a 3-way toggle for twin coil humbucking, single rear coil, and single coil with extreme bass boost.
G&L has offered to do a limited run of L-1000 style basses for me if I order 6 of them. Link Removed a few years back, and that's what G&L is offering to build. There are some minor changes from the original L-1000 from the '80s, namely the neck construction (bi-cut rather than skunk stripe), headstock shape and lack of a control plate. That's just to keep in line with G&L's current production techniques.
The bass will be priced like an L-1500, meaning it starts at $1500 MSRP = $1125 Internet. That includes a hardshell case and free shipping.
I'm willing to stock one of these, so I'll need to get at least 5 firm commitments before the orders can all be entered at the same time. A 20% non-refundable deposit will represent a firm commitment. The balance would not be due until the bass is ready to ship, which it is typically 2-3 months after the order is placed.
Before we get to the deposit taking stage, though, I'd be happy to just hear verbally if there are any folks here on TB interested in taking part in this! If it looks like we're getting close to 5 or 6 orders, then we can start thinking about deposits...
Any takers?
