I'm in, just say when. Thanks Greg.
Thanks, Jim! I'm hoping we move onto making this limited run official within the next 1-2 weeks.
Yahoo!!! I just now received positive responses on all of my open questions with G&L.
Lefty? YES!
5 String? YES!
Default 4-string Neck: #12 (other neck profiles available for $50 upcharge)
So these basses will have an MSRP of $1500 (4-string) or $1700 (5-string). That includes a hardshell case and free shipping. All of the other usual G&L options are available on these basses at the usual upcharge(s).
Here's exactly what G&L had to say:
"This special run L-1000 will be built to look like other G&L basses with newer headstock, L-1500 body shape, no control plate, back loaded controls, original passive electronics, original pickup placement, and the #12 Modern C Neck as standard features. Any additional charges for options would apply. Also available left-handed and 5 string version"
A picture is worth a thousand words, so here's how it would a righty 4-string will look.

Hmm - do you have any pics of the aged natural finish? Might have to change my specs.
